The Very Best of Canned Heat

In addition to all the great things the other reviewers have to say about the disc, I'll add that the sound quality is excellent too. For whatever reason, this band's albums have been overlooked by Capitol. If you want one of their studio albums on CD, you have overpriced poor sounding imports made by budget reissue companies to choose from - not a good situation. It's obvious from this compilation, that Capital has access to some first generation tapes. Let's just hope that someday they'll properly reissue them with the dignity this band's catalog deserves.

Hooker 'n Heat

Simply 'the best' for the voodoo of truely great Harmonica boogie improvisation. Alan Wilsons [pre-suicide] respect and harmonica 'call & response' to John Lees creative outpourings are like nothing else before or since. What a session. This record is a highly influencial album in my life and stands as a great example of 'electric Harmonica' tone and technique. I would give my 'coolies' for Al's amplifier and wonderful style. Meanwhile The whole band sounds very excited and committed to honoring their session with the legendary boogieman. What more to say? The Best of Canned Heat

I really wanted to like this album and I do really like about three of the songs, but the rest didn't do anything for me. Maybe this is just not my style of music and it's not fair for me to be reviewing the album, but I have listened to it several times and own a copy. In spite of the untimely deaths a long time ago of two of the important band members (Alan Blind Owl Wilson and Bob Hite), the band is still around, kept going by Fito de la Parra. I still think this rates 4 stars, even though it didn't thrill me that much.

Uncanned! The Best of Canned Heat

Honest, American Blues. This is the starter set for learning of the Blues genre, if starting from the third generation. I always wished that Canned Heat could have reached more popular acclaim, and asserted more stretches, as Led Zeppelin had succededed. I simply don't get the hidden tracks of commercials at the end of each disc. (They're like "The Who Sell Out.") Why take up space and leave off others? Nontheless, this is an excellent collection, and stands on its own.

Living the Blues

You don't know about boogie, about Canned Heat and about this period if you don't know this album. The 40 minutes Refried Boogie is the ultimate jam session I know of. Parthenogenesis shows that Canned Heat can also do something else than this nonstop boogie, Going up the country will stay as a classic tune, other tunes are good standard Canned Heat. I enjoy the booklet with a good complete presentation written in 2003, saying that this album is a "extreme double LP": I agree. Now it's time to boogie !

Christmas Album

I think it is a good album although rock'n'roll and Christmas do not match together very well,this is only my opinion.But for Heat fans like me it is ok.Though,if you look for real Christmas music,this is not the album....Andrea Benedetti

Like ice cream pizza, Hooker 'n' Heat is a pairing of two great things that doesn't quite work. The record company realized that the original 2-disc Hooker 'N' Heat release was overbloated, so they pared it down to this 1-disc....but it's still just not worth the money.

Find a Hooker compilation that includes "Burning Hell" (which is nearly ANY Hooker compilation) and you're good to go.

when i bought this same copy off amazon a few years ago i was 19 and it absolutely changed the way my ears precieved blues/rock for the rest of my life. contrary to the dude who can't stand the mastering job, i find it just dandy; and completely agree with reviewer James D.Morrow. buy this from the most affordable seller on here an let it all soak in with "Big Road Blues." Most Highly Recommended..

Remember "ole Jayke" is an old time Delta Blues, Chicago Style Black Electric Blues man..it is tuff for me to get into the white bands but I for one had my socks knocked off when I listened to this cd. I was blown away by "live Heat." "The Heat" have to be one of the few "white boy bands" who can create that Chicago Sound. Heat live cook and jam better than on a studio work. "She Don't Want Me No More" sounds like a Blues festival circa 60s song...lawrdy shake your money maker! "Let's Work Together" justs jumps at you, grabs you and gets you rockin and never lets go. Start clappin your hands chillun on this song. They get into a major guitar jam....rock me baby.
