I'm a big fan of Cafe Tacvba. Only one song really grabbed me on this CD, where in the past almost all the songs were amazing.
Release Date July 22, 1994
Read More:

I loved the original edition of "Red Hot & Latin" when it came out 10 years ago, but the new re-issue track is even better! Highlights include the new bonus tracks from Brazilian Girls/Kevin Johansen, Kinky, Nortec Collective, and Thievery Corporation....but the older material also holds up quite well.
I still think that Fishbone and Los Fabulosos Cadillacs' collaboration on "What's New Pussycat" is such a blast - those guys should tour together again some time!
This album was truly groundbreaking when it first came out - there were bilingual collaborations from many acts, WAY before this was commonplace. Any fan of Latin, world, or alternative music needs to own this album.....plus, all the proceeds go to fight HIV/AIDS in Latin ... Read More:

This album is just a MASTERPIECE. I love it every song is incredible. Eres is just the best song EVER. So much passion and love. This is a MUST buy for everybody not only Tacuba fans.
Release Date April 09, 2002
Hearing the Kronos Quartet play selections from this album and talk about it one morning on NPR's St. Paul Sunday, I was captivated. They talked about the Mexican composers and musicians and how they had found them, and the instruments they played, the ways in which they were recorded. I wanted to learn more about these unique composers and musicians, and bought the album that morning. However, the liner notes offered absolutely nothing beyond who-played-on-what. It was a many-paged booklet, so cost wasn't a factor. Instead of discussions of these Mexican musicians and their instrumentation and careers, there were a lot of captionless photographs. Boring. The music that is haunting is still, of course, haunting and unique, but the producers could have ... Read More:

I saw Vale Callampa was only four tracks, and did not even notice it was a tribute to Los Tres from Chile. I listened to the tracks probably twice, and I came to one conclusion - my perfect band existed, and it was Café Tacvba.
From start to finish, these four tracks are just ridiculously great. From Dejate Caer, which became the bands first big-time hit since La Ingrata (at least here in the US) to Olor a Gas (their interpretation of it just gives me goosebumps) to Amor Violento (the farting sounds, though some critics think are lame, are anything but) to Tirate (probably the only track that even remotely resembles what Los Tres did in the original interpretations). This EP is really, really good, especially when you consider that the Tacvbos probably ... Read More:

I have never been a fan of cover albums, and I must say that in 1996 when I heard that Café Tacvba's next album would be full of covers, I was quite disappointed. Especially when a couple of years ago this same band criticized other bands for doing covers, now they were releasing an album full of those!
I am not sure but I believe that for this album the vocalist changed his name to `Anonimo', the album includes covers from Flans (an 80's pop band), Botellita de Jerez (another mexican rock band) and Leo Dan among others. It has only 8 tracks, but the eight of them are quite enjoyable.
Even though the songs were not new, what I never considered was that they changed the original music to the Café Tacvba style, which is totally unpredictable. Their version ... Read More:

It was the year of 1992 and the rock scene in Mexico was swarming with new bands, each one with a different style and proposal. One of those bands was Café Tacvba, named after a coffee shop in Mexico city, today (13 years later) they are still one of the few good Mexican rock bands.
This debut album with a variety of themes in the lyrics and with a very `mexican' style in its music, showed what seemed to be a very promising band. The vocal style that Sizu Yantra has (that's the most recent name that the vocalist has adopted, another peculiarity about the band) is quite different to what you expect from a vocalist, in time you get used to it and you actually get to like it, his style has evolved and improved ever since. `Las batallas' and `Maria' are a couple of ballads in ...
