I bought this for a friend who is writing a skit for our high school reunion. We graduated in the 60's when this album was popular. Some of us had portions memorized. I still remember the incredible driving lesson with Mrs. Webb. Bob Newhart's comedy didn't need politics or blue humor. His self-deprecating hesitation captured all the personal angst that just coping with life presented. It's a pure delight.

These are vintage Newhart routines delivered impeccably and that have not diminished with age. Some of the references will be unfamiliar with those under 30 (or 40) but the humor remains in a comedic style that unfortunately seem foreign to most young comics today.

I bought this because my husband and I both enjoy the humor of Bob Newhart. When I introduced my children to it, they loved it, too. They enjoyed the cd so much that I have had to retrieve it from their rooms on more than one occasion. "Introducing Tobacco to Civilization" and "Driving Instructor" are our family's personal favorites, but the whole cd is a lot of fun.

Recorded before a live audience in 1960, this record immediately demonstrates the effectiveness of the deadpan style of comedian Bob Newhart. It is a style that many contemporary comedians should examine. Newhart very rarely raised his voice; he relied on inflection, content and explanations of the scenario to set an effective stage for the workings of the comedy.
It worked very well; Newhart was a staple of network television for years. He always managed to be funny, even though he looks talks and acts like a simple accountant. I enjoyed listening to this record, the routines are:
