What a mix of styles here. A little funk, a little jazz, a lotta rockin tunes. Brant Bjork is definetely an overlooked musician who writes great stuff. This album jams, plain and simple.
"Cheap Wine" might be the catchiest tune I've heard in a long time. "Electric Lalli Land" is funky and will get your head bobbin'. "Cocoa Butter" is smooth and easy and fantastic.

Yes, it's all for a good cause, but this is one cute CD, too. It's Army of Me baked, broiled and deep fried in many funky ways.
At the moment, I mostly keep returning to the death metal version, ie Track No 1, but the electronic bossa nova version, No 2, and pachinko takes (complete with gaming noises) that are Track No 3 and Track no 20 are great and just perfectly mad. Especialy when rounded up by No 4, Country and Honky Tonk version, maybe with a dash of No 7, the Accordion Mix.
There's also a Judas Priest version, a techno techno one, a very creepy Portishead inspired mix, and several more heavily deconstructed, dance floor or kitchen floor Armies. If they are good enough for Bjork's approval, they're good enough for me; some are ... Read More:

2001's Vespertine (originally to be titled Domestika) was a huge critical success that could've been found on the top of almost any magazine's list of top albums for the year. The album, Björk's fourth solo effort, remains the favorite among the majority of her fans to this day. (I, for one, choose Homogenic. But that's just me). The hype was for good reason, too. The introverted work was innovative, intimate, and simply intoxicating with its complex--but somehow, compact--arrangements. The project offered a side of the quirky singer that none had seen before: a soft and sensual one. "Hidden Place" was chosen as the first single of the set, and rightfully so. The original, laced with shuffling cards, masterfully written lyrics, whispery vocals, and ... Read More:

Approaching the catalog of an artist as prestigious as Bjork is very difficult, and at first glance new listeners would want to stray from Homogenic in exchange for an album where she looks prettier on the cover. But this album is definitely one of her most serious, moving works and should be an eventual purchase for even casual fans. For the record, this is generally argued to be her best album, and although it may not be easy to listen to at first, the album stands out as being great if you can manage to give it a bit of a chance to open up. From the beginning dynamics of Hunter to the final touching words of All Is Full of Love, most everything on this album is very good and melodies are used to their full potential. But while this album pushes Bjork's ... Read More:

"It's Oh So Quiet" has to be my personal favorite Bjork song of all time. I believe it was my first exposure to Bjork back in the late '90s and I saw the colorful video directed by Spike Jonze on MTV. I loved how the big band sound. It was ever so catchy. Before I bought "Post" or any other of Bjork's cds, I bought this particular EP which continued the song as well as two different versions of "Hyper-Ballad", another great Bjork song, and "My Spine". I love "Hyper-Balld". It is my favorite ballad that Bjork has ever done plus I have a friend in a local rock band here in Minneapolis who performs the song as a way to close the show. Between the Brodsky Quartet Version and the Girls Blouse Mix, I think I like the Brodsky Quartet Version slightly more but that ... Read More:
