Somewhere over the Rainbow: The Golden Age of Hollywood Musicals

by: Various Artists

Release Date June 04, 2002
A wonderful collection of Hollywood musical moments that you will enjoy over and over again. The recordings are crisp and clear. This 2 disc set will have you running to rent these classic movies. Kelly, Astaire, Garland, Crosby, Keel and many others were one-of-a-kind talents . What a great way to remember them.

Somebody Loves Me

by: Betty Hutton

Release Date September 27, 2004
I would buy this CD if you are interested in hearing a greater range of Betty Hutton's work apart from her novelty songs. There are quite a few ballads mixed in with the more up-tempo songs. The sound quality is excellent also all the songs have been remastered.

Release Date March 08, 2005
Travel back in time to an era when songs were created to enjoy like a rich desert that your mom would make. Howard Keel and his various duet partners have done just this! This CD has a wonderful selection from the great musicals of the 1950's and makes you smile....sigh....and seek to hear them again and again. I would encourage you to add this to your collection as I have. I've even shared it with many of my friends who have come back with the same remarks of great music from one of the great singers of our recent past.

The Blonde Bombshell

by: Betty Hutton

Release Date July 10, 2006
I would buy this CD if you want the EXACT recordings of Betty singing her songs straight from the film soundtracks (a lot of people prefer the film versions.) As it says on the back it is a mono recording so the sound quality is not going to be the best in places. I bought it as I wanted to hear her songs from "Lets Dance" with Fred Astaire that I couldn't find on any other release.

CD-Charts Music : Spotlight on Betty Hutton

Spotlight on Betty Hutton

from: Capitol Records

Release Date 1994
I've always considered Betty Hutton something of a novelty act -- gesticulating, face-pulling, and only incidentally singing (and often yelling) a series of jivey up-tempo numbers in a brassy (if not particularly distinctive) voice. And while I pretty much stand by that assessment, this collection of mid-1940s Columbia sides proves that when called upon, the late Ms. Hutton could put over a ballad; if not with the best of them (Judy Garland this ain't), certainly with the rest of them. Ms. Hutton's more famous songs -- "Murder He Says" and "It's Oh So Quiet" (the latter given a new lease on life by Bjork's 1995 cover) are absent. But there's plenty of boistrous novelty numbers here -- among the best, Frank Loesser's "Hamlet" (the Shakespeare classic ... Read More:

The Best of the RCA Years

by: Betty Hutton

Release Date November 12, 1996
An underrated actress and comedienne from the 1940s wartime era, Huttom was actually the younger sibling of Marion Hutton, longtime "girl" singer with the Glenn Miller orchestra. Her vocal work is sometimes hampered by its comedic aspects -- although she was capable of singing ballads and love songs every bit as sweetly as her big sister, Hutton yonked and squawked her way through most songs. Still, she's a dynamo and tunes like "I'm Just A Square (In A Social Circle)" and "Can't Stop Talkin' About Him" are pretty impressive in their swinging, toungue-twisty dynamics alone. Better yet, try and check her out in her film appearances, to get the full picture of what a great performer she was. 1945's "The Stork Club" ... Read More:

Release Date May 10, 2005
This compilation is live performances for Command Performance radio shows. Her voice is great, the bands are tight but I wish they would have said that it was live performances. They just can't match the recordings and I had been hoping to get an actual studio recorded version of Arthur Murray Taught Me Dancing In A Hurry. I give it 3 stars because Betty Hutton rules!
