A friend played this CD for me on my last visit to Paris and I now associate Paris with Bebel's Tanto Tempo CD...even though she's Brazilian and the music is not Parisian. It just fit the time and place. You don't have to understand a word of what she's singing to understand what she's saying. I know nothing about Bossa Nova or Brazilian music but I got what she was portraying in these soulful and emotive songs. Just incredible and can put you in such a great positive mood! A must have for your collection if you are open to varied music tastes.

I disagree strongly with the criticism here. Those who say that it lacks originality should note that the title clearly says REMIXES. You're not going to hear brand new songs - that's really not the point of a remix album! And I don't think it takes away from the original at all. It's very refreshing! It's really neat how Bebel's buttery smooth voice washes over you to create a tranquil calm setting in the original, but in the remixes, it's exciting and upbeat but still has the same character. Same great music for 2 very different atmospheres.

The Now Sound of Brazil

I have listened to this and the earlier Brazil 2 Mil comp, and many others of similar ambition. Also, I have listened to the artists within and many of their contemporaries from other, longer, albums. And while this album is alright, it's not great. For one, it's a bit uneven as it's a comp. That's alright, but what isn't is that they market it as this representative selection of "new" Brazilian music - it's not. It's downtempo lounge electronica ala Thievery Corporation or some euro thing, but with a Brazilian flair. If someone said Thievery Corporation was a sample of cutting edge electronic music I would have to laugh in their face - while it may be decent music and a pleasant listen in the right situation, it is nowhere near the "edge" of anything.

From the uplifting opening of Delerium by Euphoria to the very last note of Milan by Karsh Kale this is a great compilation of international music.

If you are looking at taking the plunge into the universe of music from around the world, then this is a good starting place. I hold back on calling it trance as others have because this is not a typical album in any genre. There are trance elements in a few of the songs, but over all the diversification of sound is simply amazing. This isn't a traditional "World Music" album in that you are not getting the raw, unmodified, sound of an ethnic group. The music here has a beat that you can dance to or just sit and chill to.

A Six Degrees Collection: Traveler '00

At first I really liked this album. Very chill beats and learned some new people. Great dinner music or working backround stuff. Can get somewhat boring. However, some tracks are amazing. The beginning is where the most interesting stuff is and then fades into where I thinking I am at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. Like it overall.
