Snack Time

First a disclaimer - I'm a Barenaked Ladies fan.

I bought this CD for my nephew who just turned 3 (he has a brother age 7). The review I got from mum was "oh my god, they love it!" They love to sing along (as does mum) and as of this week (1.5 weeks after arriving) they won't let her get past the first 2 songs (7,8,9 & Ninja song.) They keep wanting to play these 2 over and over again -- so be warned mums and dads - it might get repetitive initially. Being a Pierre Burton fan I bought this CD for the Pollywog song. My nephews are Canadian.

Can't wait to hear what they have to say when they get to the rest of the album! Rock on Barenaked Ladies!

Disc One: All Their Greatest Hits 1991-2001

If you not a real big BNL fan than this is the album to pick up. If you are a big BNL fan than you already have all these songs. These were their most famous tunes. But if you own any of their stuff (if not you should really get some) you know how great and witty all the songs are.

Undoubtedly my favorite Holiday CD. It has some goofy tunes that are total BNL style, and it's a must-have for any fan. I love the non-traditional versions of many of the songs!

I was kind of surprised that I hadn't heard any of the songs from this album get at least a little air play, but after listening to the CD, I can see why. Just about all the tracks sound muddled. I was pretty disappointed by the mixing. To me, the instrumental portion of the songs drowns out the lyrics. It is really hard, harder than it should be, to understand the words because the singing is overshadowed buy the instruments.

Stunt

This is the album that did it for me. "Stunt" is the album by now one of my favorite bands that really got me into Barenaked Ladies. I have owned it for about 8 or so years now and these guys have been one of my favorite bands since. I've waited too long to write this review about my limitless praise. I have NEVER EVER gotten tired of ANY of the excellent songs on this god-like album and I never will be. I now own several of Barenaked Ladies' albums {I got Maroon not soon after this one} and even a DVD chock-full of wonderful music videos they've made over the years called "Barelaked Nadies." Maybe You Should Drive

The second album from the Ladies had a few very strong songs on it, but seemed to lack the strength that their later efforts have shown. It may be an unfair standard to put the band against itself when rating it, as this may be a better than average album for most bands, or maybe even great, but BNL has released much stronger albums since making this, with the exception of Born on a Pirate Ship. This is still worth buying, especially for fans of any of their non-radio stuff, but I wouldn't recommend it as the first album you pick up by them if you're new to the band. I don't see an album by BNL that isn't worth buying eventually. Even the Xmas album is worth buying, if only for sheer amusement.

Rock Spectacle

This is the middle time for the BNL. They do great live versions of their classic songs. The only objection I have to this is there is some profanity in one of the songs. I listened to this with my cousins when we were younger. Outside of the small useage of profanity, this is a classic album and a must for any BNL fan.

If you haven't heard of BNL purchase any one of their CD's for an experience you will enjoy forever.

If you have heard of BNL, 'nuff said for you have this album.

For those of you who wonder....there is not another musical group on this planet that has brought such a depth and breath to music since the Beatles. Once again, 'nuff said.
