Live in Buffalo

by: Asia

Release Date September 01, 2003
I live in Buffalo and I'm a big prog rock fan; so when I saw this CD at the library, I knew I had to give it a free listen. But make no mistake - this CD under-delivers on many levels.

I always wanted Asia to be a great band - it had my favorite guitar player (Steve Howe), a top-shelf drummer (Carl Palmer), and a proven bass player/vocalist who was up to the task (John Wetton). But there was always a bit too much "pop", simplicity and repetition in their music to totally engage me. Hey, progressive rock is mostly about "different", complexity and change, right? Asia was a progressive-pop band (akin to the later albums of Todd Rundgren's Utopia) that made good music, but didn't really pioneer much of anything.

CD-Charts Music : Daniel Asia: Symphony No. 2; Symphony No. 3

Daniel Asia: Symphony No. 2; Symphony No. 3

from: New World Records

Release Date April 16, 1995
At first, this composer and these compositions might be somewhat off-putting, symphonies by a contemporary composer who is not a household word. But don't be. If one is looking to expand one's musical horizons beyond the usual old war horses, this is a good place to do so. Daniel Asia has staked-out a middle ground, scaling down flamboyant technical difficulties in order to enhance the performer's expressive potential. Consequently, these symphonies are quite accessible, giving us yet another example of a composer, who is not that well-known, but is worthy of consideration.

Aura

by: Asia

Release Date November 02, 2007
Yet Again John Payne turns in a powerful & uplifting vocal performance,

From The catchy opening hook of "Awake" to the downright spiritual "Ready To Go Home" a CD any "ASIA" fan can enjoy,

However if your expecting something along the lines of "Heat of the Moment"
you may want to look some where else.

Aura hearkens back to the great days of 70's & 80's FM rock like The Alan Parsons Project, TOTO, & Traffic. A great CD when you need to unwind & still get a groove on at the same time

The Last Stand

by: Planet Asia

Release Date October 03, 2000
I can't believe how bad are the reviews this album got. So many three stars given. Man, the only reason I didn't give this one more stars is because there were only eight songs on it. That was my only hesitation to buy this album, since living in California as a teenager meant you needed to pinch your pennies a little bit. But I got it, and was pleased. The beats were the rugged underground beats that you would love to listen to any underground cat spit over. His lyrics are great, he rhymes so smooth and puts in good words in his flows. This is definitely ten times better than the Grand Opening, where he starts talking about hoes and money, blah blah. Get this for the pure lyrics that Asia spits out. peace

Release Date November 15, 1994
This was the first studio album with John Payne. He had started working with Geoffrey Downes in 1988 on session work. He was picked to replace John Wetton. Some fans weren't happy about this. I didn't even wanna know about this at first. My first copy was a French import (MusiDisc) I found. I wish I kept it, though it was scratched when I found it. Then I had the US edition (JRS/Pyramid/BMG), which had tracks rearranged and "Little Rich Boy" removed for some reason. Then I find this edition, with a bonus track that's already on "Archiva Volume 2". The sound was improved though. Then InsideOut released the latest edition in the West.
The albums open with an acoustic guitar solo from Steve Howe. Carl Palmer also returns for a while, ... Read More:

Gold

by: Asia

Release Date March 25, 2008
After having been slightly dissapointed in ASIA's current album Pheonix, Listening to ASIA GOLD was an incredible pleasure as well as a rich nostalgic trip back to the eighties. Lets face it, without john wetton, it just isnt asia. This compilation of greatest hits has some great b-sides that I havent heard since the late eighties/early nineties. This is as complete a collection of Asia as you're bound to get. Two Discs with all three albums..b sides from the first two albums, four original songs that were included in the previous asia greatest hits cd. Wow is all I can say. The sound of Asia is still rich and epic as ever. A great bargain for the price that amazon is selling it. This is a must have for any Asia fan.

Orchestral Stories

by: David Benoit

Release Date September 13, 2005
This recording, though not typical David Benoit, demonstrates David Benoit's talents. Nevertheless, I was disappointed. My first disappointment came when I noticed that I'd purchased a Not-For-Resale promo CD. Next, the recordings aren't that catchy. Still, this piece may be one of those that I have to let grow on me. It has two mini-orchestral works that are multi-segment pieces, one or both of an oriental theme. The fact that I don't really remember shows that I just don't care for the work, it just doesn't inspire. The only nice work is a testimony to the fallen at Ground Zero, New York where the Twin Towers once stood before 9/11/2001. It's very touching.

If you want to risk a few bucks on a 50s sounding orchestral work, buy it. Its somewhat interesting. ... Read More:
