Real Animal

I just discovered Alejandro when I downloaded a duet of the opening track on this album that he performed with Bruce Springsteen. It inspired me to pick up Real Animal and I was not disappointed. An excellent Rock and Roll album that I highly recommend to fans of Springsteen, Tom Petty and the like.

Great CD by Alejandro Escovedo covering the roots of rock and roll. Especially fine are the singles "rosalie" and the rocking "velvet guitar".

Like some others, I saw Escovedo and his band on Woodsongs, and Austin City Limits. Those performances are what I want to buy, not this album. The songs are worth 5 stars, but the production by Cale sucks. I bought the album, but I hope they put out the Austin City Limits performance - that was worth 5 stars!

I keep 4 or 5 disks close to me almost at all times, ones I can listen to any time and they always do something important for me (important *to* me).

_Gravity_ is one of them; as vital to me as _Who's Next_ or _Highway 61 Revisited_, this is an outstanding effort by one of the greatest songwriters going.

I first became aware of Alejandro when I saw him perform on a TV show and said to myself, "I've just got to have this guy's album." Since I love the blues, I thought the safest bet would be to get this album, and I'm not disappointed. It's got to be one of the best I have ever listened to. Alejandro's got such a curious and successful mix of styles and genres ... I keep playing the CD over and over again. I love him so much that I've ordered three other of his CDs ...

This CD was a real surprise. First, I had never heard of the genre that this artist is supposed to represent. I was looking for Latino music when I came across "Por Vida-A tribute to the songs of Alejandro Escovedo" Of course the music was not Latino, the songs were similar to the Americana genre.I mix all styles of music for atmosphere play during friendly gatherings; this music was unlike any styles I had collected. The stories in the songs that belonged to Escovedo was intriguing so I ordered this one because of some of the glowing comments provided in reviews. Maybe I'd been living under a rock or something... but I'd never heard of Alejandro Escovedo until this tribute came out. My interest was piqued by the All-Star roster of artists that performed. The first song I heard was "Paradise" by Steve Earle & Reckless Kelly. Now THAT just blew me away, so I delved farther and found a lot of great songs on this album. This all lead to buying each and evey album that Alejandro has done, including his stuff w/ Buick MacKane and True Believers. I felt as though I missed something very important up until that point. Room of Songs

These discs showcase a marvelous performance in what sounds like an intimate setting. I wish I could have been there. The only reason I'm giving it only four stars, is that I, personally prefer Alejandro's electric music and I heard he's toured with a kick-ass rock band. Regardless, I hope he keeps cranking them out.
