In a watershed moment for Columbia Records, this original Broadway cast recording began the rapid climb of the company into the stratosphere of pop culture consciousness.
Produced by company president Goddard Lieberson, it sold five million copies and spent a staggering 480 weeks on the Billboard 200 album chart. To place the album in an accurate historical perspective, it was the Thriller of its generation.
It is timeless music - due to the rich arrangements & performances - with the numbers encapsulating the musical for those who only have the album as the point of reference.
There are few albums that truly define the American music industry. This is certainly one which has space on that lofty mantel.

I bought this soundtrack for my mom for her birthday-she loved it! Shipping was fine, price was decent, everything was in good shape...
It's good to see timeless songs surviving through the digital age.

Love this CD ! Will bring the Movie to me while doing other things ! For the ones that say "it is not Lee Marvin singing"....HE IS ! Your "ear" has to be very bad not to recognize his voice ! Great songs...And Clint sings too ! Don't care what they say but he does sing good ! And for the ones that say "his weak voice..." , that weak voice is what makes him special. Favorites: "Gold Fever" ( can play it forever) , "Wandering Star" ( beautiful ) and "The best things of Life" ( cheerful and fun ! )
I can play this soundtrack over and over and cheers me up so much even if I'm upset: total fix ! I even bought the music lyrics for piano and I'm playing them !!!! Fun !

While Camelot, the movie, is magical, gorgeous, and heartbreaking, get the OBC for the music. It is a classic and Franco Nero can't hold a candle to Robert Goulet singing If Ever I Would Leave You.
But if you want to watch a great romantic movie, this is it.

This studio recording of the Lerner and Loewe classic is quite good. In fact, until the Jack Cassidy/Shirley Jones version was finally released on CD, this was by far the best CD available of the score. The singing is very good, the sound quality is excellent, and all the songs are here intact. So is the dance music--all of it. Which brings up one of the problems with McGlinn's studio recreations. He is a fanatic for completeness. He goes overboard with it. At least in this recording he hasn't resurrected songs that were cut out of town as he did for other recordings such as "Show Boat" and "Anything Goes." There's usually a very good reason songs get cut out of town: they don't fit, or they just aren't very good. But I digress. We're talking about ... Read More:

Though there were elements of GIGI that bothered me greatly, even as a little girl, before I knew what a courtesan was, the soundtrack is undoubtedly beautiful and the partnership of singer/songwriter duo Lerner and Loewe really succeeds in capturing the mood of this novella. Young Gigi (Leslie Caron) comes to live with her aunt (Hermione Gingold), a courtesan (definition: high-class prostitute or mistress, especially one associated with rich, powerful, or upper-class men who provided luxuries and status in exchange for her services. In Renaissance Europe, courtesans played an important role in upper-class society, sometimes taking the place of wives at social functions.). The hope is that Gigi will be trained in the fine art and tradition of this craft. But, ... Read More:

Before the days of cd's, I wore out two lp's of the original Broadway cast of "My Fair Lady." When time came to purchase a cd, I bought this one, not even realizing that it was a different production. I saw just the two stars on the label, Julie Andrews and Rex Harrison.
Now, the question arises: When an artist has been performing the same role for two years, does he/she settle more deeply into the character, or become blase and mechanical? I did not sense a great movement in either direction, although the former might have a slight edge.
As I have read the other reviews posted about this recording, I notice that most are actually comparing the two rather than reviewing the one. Let us not forget that "My Fair Lady" is a great musical. Either of the ... Read More:

This is the best version of Brigadoon. The story and music are so romantic and charming, and the original cast always delivers the most heartfelt performance. The voices of David Brooks and Lee Sullivan are sincerely warm, and the ladies hold their own when it comes to the vocals. A lot of other reviewers complain about the poor sound, but quite frankly, it didn't bother me at all. I didn't even think about the sound quality....I was so delighted by the enchanting music. Skip the movie version....many of the best songs are omitted (including my favorite, "Come to Me, Bend to Me".)

On this CD, the main disadvantage are the voices. The girl who dubbed the singing voice of Cyd Charisse is shockingly talented, but Gene Kelly's voice is, as always, flat and gray and incredibly boring to listen to, and while Gustafson has a very pleasant voice, he falls far short in his attempt to sound like an old-fashioned Gaelic tenor.
However, some music is so good that it can salvage any voice that sings it. Such is the music of Brigadoon. Musical highlights include...
The hymn-like, extraordinarily beautiful "In thy valley there'll be love"...
The rowdy, rousing "bachelor party" number, "Go home with bonnie Jean"...
"There but for you go I", a song so beautiful that even Gene Kelly's voice sounds lovely ... Read More:
