After having known Scorsese's earlier work like "Last Waltz" and recently "No Direction Home - Bob Dylan", I expected "Shine a light" to be of a similar standard. But it's mostly damp squib with the entire movie being about just one concert (all songs shown are played fully) with very few titbits from backstage and fewer clips from Stones' earlier years. This is not a documentary on the Rolling Stones but rather an extended dvd of one concert. Nothing really stands out here. All in all very avoidable. I really didn't care for her voice, she has a very harsh, deep sounding voice. I liked the part with the jonas Brothers though, they sounded really good! I should clarify I am not an 8 yr old I am 41 yrs old so that may be the reason I didn't go crazy over her concert movie...lol

The live portion looks as if someone shot this with a camcorder from 1985. Compared to the Score and Budokan DVD's this is a bootleg. I have the Dark Side of the Moon and and Live in Bucharest bootleg DVD's and the video quality is similar. The audio on the DVD is good, which is why I can't understand why the video quality is so bad.

Buy this for the bonus stuff (videos of the singles off of Systematic Chaos) and the behind the scenes documentary. Not for the live section.

I watched "Winter" from this DVD on youtube...it was absolutely fabulous. The best performance I have seen of Tori doing this song. It brought me to tears, moved me from a deep place. I am happy to have been a part of her audience from '94-'08 to see how much she has grown and matured, how much we have grown and matured in a world view. Tori is still right on in my book, even though she doesn't have the "freshness" some say as she had in her earlier years. This is just a reminder to me of Tori's genius. We may not have had this LIVE at Montreux if she had not made it this far into her music career--a big star she is--that's the way it needs to be for someone like her. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Without having gotten the DVD yet, and after reading someone else's comment. All that I have to say is that is a shame they edited all the climbing scene during Cry/The Electric Co.
Those who have watched or listen to bootlegs concerts from the early days, know that climbing until the top of the stage was the part of the show that excite the crow the most. Bono and his famous stunts that ended on a fight in a LA show back in 1983.
About the grainy stuff. C'omon, cameras were not the same back in 1983 and who had thought back them that we would have DVD and LCD tvs now in 2008.

I bought this DVD mainly to listen and view my Chicago favorites. They open the show with EWF and start off with Beginnings which has been one of my all time favorite Chicago songs if not the all time favorite. It almost goes downhill after that. I would have not chosen to open the show with that song. That one should have been at the end or on one of the encores. Nonetheless, they play a couple of other songs together than they break off. EWF gets to play first and then Chicago takes the stage and then they join together again as in the beginning. Earth Wind and Fire steal the show and they are tighter musically. I rarely review, but felt compelled to save people from this one. The audio is horrible. I tried DD, DTS, stereo, etc. Muddy, muddled, echo'y...not sure else how to describe it. The vocals are completely a mess...like they are singing thru a pillow, while the instruments are wide open. The video is crisp and clear, but often, it shifts scene to scene every 2 seconds. I could make lots of comments about content, but it is useless due to my above comments. I like ZZ!. But this is a disaster.
