"I'm not there" is simply brilliant and creative. This biopic portrays the many reinventions of Bob Dylan. He is first portrayed an 11 year old black boy named Woody who is full of ideals and hopes (and lies as well); his life is a made-up tale that is quickly uncovered personifying Dylan's stories about himself when he first started. He is then portrayed by Christian Bale as a born-again singer (Christian Bale). Ben Wishaw plays a poet who is being interrogated by unseen authorities as to why he has stop protesting. He is also a sort of narrator to this movie. Heath Ledger plays the actor Jack Rollins who struggles with fame and maintaining his family. Cate Blanchett plays the despondent, drugged out Jude that is unwilling to answer any questions ... Read More:

I didnt know about this movie(or it missed me somehow), I acutally saw it a day ago on the IFC channel on cable, I was blown away. Admittedly not of that generation or movement (actually born just as it probably got started).
I do recall as a young boy growing up in London during the late 70's "this stuff" being on the radio, like many things it took my growing into adulthood and perhaps being nostalgic for a time period I sailed through in complete oblivion to have a appreciative look back. As a guy whos musical genre leanings dont tend to lean in this direction there are a number of true musical gems that this movie brought to my attention.
Again, being older, more open-minded and mature, I felt like I truly was able to ... Read More:

I don't think, in reality, that the 50's era was all that innocent. After all, homosexuals and negroes have always been with us. Like, June Cleaver cleaned her TV house wearing pearls and a skirt, stocking, heels, and a neat sweater set and perfectly styled hair with pearl earrings. Have you every seen your mother clean all dressed up? Of course not, because it's make believe. Like the movies, or anything for that matter. It's all a facade. But, that's why we used to go to the movies, to get away from reality, were the people are pretty and dressed nice and are polite to each other, throw in some melodrama and you got some good popcorn munching entertainment. And the handsome black man in this movie had his own business, was well dressed, well spoken, a widower, ... Read More:

Gets off to a great start that is eery and weird. But then it morphs into something about people who are allergic to the environment. That's when it gets very boring indeed. You keep expecting something scary to happen. It has a Stepford Wives quality that never pays off. Not worth the bother.

Filmed in 1990, POISON was an extremely obscure art house film--until Senator Jessie Helms, a hysterical homophobe, threw a public temper tantrum over the fact that it had been financed in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. Helm's tirade had the effect of piquing public curiosity, and while it never played mainstream cinemas POISON did indeed go on to a wider release on the art house circuit, winning the Grand Jury Prize at the 1991 Sundance Film Festival and receiving an unexpectedly rapid release to the homemarket as well. Thereafter it rapidly returned to the same obscurity from which came.
It is easy to understand why the film never caught on in any broad sense. It is deliberately "art house," and your ability to "get" the film will depend a great ... Read More:

"Dottie Gets Spanked"
Short and Very, Very Sweet
Amos Lassen and Cinema Pride
What "Dottie Gets Spanked" does in half an hour many full length films never manage to do. With no pretense and frills, Todd Haynes, the director conveys what it is like to be a youngster on the verge of becoming gay. The movie is simple and straightforward yet a very emotional experience. The movie hugs you and draws you in a dark and sinister way without you even realizing that it is happening. It uplifts sissy power to a degree heretofore not dealt with on the screen.
I felt as if I was taken back to the shame I felt when I could not share my early sexual fantasies. Our main character, Steven Gale, is fascinated by the world of women and he is mesmerized by a TV star named ... Read More:
