This boxset was absolutely amazing. I was thrilled with the item the second I opened it. I couldn't believe the amount of thought that was put into creating this DVD collection together. This is truly a collection that a diehard Beatles fan should not be without.

The reviewer who claims that this film was originally made in 4:3 format is quite wrong. Perhaps he means the original video, which was certainly cut to fit a standard TV. But this good DVD is correctly formatted, and nothing has been cut off from the top or bottom.

That having been said, this is a very comprehensive set. The 36' documentary with reminiscences of the film's crew is fun and enlightening. One comes away with the feeling, as if we couldn't guess from the film itself, that spirits were high (pardon the expression) and everyone felt this would be something special.

This is probably the 2 best versions of the movie versions of the 3 Musketeers. Michael York, Richard Chamberlain, Frank Finlay and Oliver Reed are amazing as the Musketeers. The story centers on young D'artagnon played by York who travels to Paris to become a Musketeer but ends up in one misadventure after another. Charlton Heston plays Cardinal Richelieu, the most powerful man in France that is trying to replace the King as absolute ruler by scheming and plotting against him and the Queen. Christopher Lee stars as Rochforte and Faye Dunaway as Milady Dewinter play the Cardinal's henchmen and assassins to humorous delight. I love Richard Lester's style of direction( Hard Day's Night, The Ritz, Three Muskateer's etc). Zero Mostel in a role that rivals his performance in the Producer's will have you rolling on the floor. Phil Silvers is at his best as a wheeler dealer. The Roman Empire lasted in spite of the shenanigans here. A story of mixed up love and misdirection. Will they pull it off or will they fall to the conquerer who raped Thrace thrice? Anyway it's a very funny movie at a greta price.

This is the famous pre-aids gay movie from the great, now forgotten, Richard Lester who developed it from a Terence Mcnally off-Broadway play.
Without Lester there would have been no Bonnie and Clyde, no Godfather, nor The Graduate. An American in London (not Paris) Lester who presented the world with those incredibly 'up close' Beatles movies in 1964 and 66 teased Hollywood with the new 'Hollywood-Look-that-Could-Be' especially in lighting and editing when Hollywood was still muddling along with 50s style westerns and musicals, whose staple products often had dated, garish colors and frigid, distant editing.

The script, the acting, Marlon Brando...all combined- cannot even touch the Superman II that was released in America back in the early 80's. After seeing this version of the film, I want a refund for seeing the other one. You can't even commpare the two. It's like comparing an Academy Award Winning Film to Sesame Street. The CEO of Warner Bros. should have been put in jail or fired for releasing that crap and making us pay money to see it.

Richard Lester's 1974 thriller JUGGERNAUT has often lumped together with the "disaster films" of the era. I trust it's not too much of a spoiler to say that it would be more accurately termed a "disaster narrowly avoided" film. Come to think of it, what's WRONG with calling it a plain old "thriller." "Disaster film" has always implied hundreds, even thousands dead or maimed. In a movie like THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE--so emblematic of the genre--a mere handful of survivors live to tell the tale. The body count in JUGGERNAUT is substantially less. The tension, however, is actually higher.

I'm glad that some viewers like it. I did too, and after finally seeing it after so many years of trying, I am surprised at the terrible rap the movie has acquired. What's really missing, something that lends weight to the novels, I think, is the voice of the older, wiser, brutally honest Harry. Otherwise, what's to criticize? Sexy women, swordfights, scenery, costumes. And there is one really great turn: Oliver Reed as Bismarck. He deserved his own miniseries.
