I love this movie/concert production by the always brilliant and funny Dave Chappelle! The music is amazing, the commentaries and insightful, and Dave's jokes are appropriate (it's not a comedy or stand-up, he's just being himself). As a child of the 70s, I can appreciate this movie on so many levels. First of all, it is reminiscient of the movie concerts of the past (before You Tube, etc.). Secondly, the music and the choice of musicians is brilliant. However you want to categorize the artists (Hip Hop, Neo Soul, etc), they are the voice of now and conscious artists who commit not only to their artistry but also to being activist and supporters of the community. Not the same snap and fizz the first one, "Get Shorty", had but still well worth a look. The casting is great but the story about the record industry although adequate doesn't seem as edgy and believable. I don't know if that is because Gene Hackman was more believable or the story was better in the first. Maybe this felt to much like the first ones overall premise of wiseguys being outdone by Chili Palmer, played by John Travolta again. Certainly worth seeing but I would recommend renting before buying. Good quality DVD with some replayability.

"Ghosts of Cite Soleil" is a good documentary that could have been excellent, if its directors had chosen to dedicate some time to provide the spectator with a better context regarding what was happening in Haiti at the time this film was made, 2004. Without it, we "see" what was happening during Haiti's civil war through the eyes of two gang leaders who took active part in it, but we don't really understand what is going on, or why.

That doesn't mean this documentary is not worth watching, as it gives you an idea of what the lives of the people who lived in the slum of Cité Soleil were like, and the few choices they had in order to stay alive.
