Even though I grew up dancing...(my father would take us out honky tonkin') my husband isn't much of a dancer. With a willing spirit though he wanted to learn. If only you could have been there when he took me in his arms, holding me the way he was instructed, and said..."WOW!" "You really do go where I want you to"! (Probably every husbands dream) :) Then he starts placing me here and there. We had a GREAT TIME! With a little practice, we'll be all over the dance floor. Thanks so much!!! The dances taught on this DVD are outdated and hard to adapt to real-life dancing situations. If you've never lined danced before in your life you might enjoy this DVD, but if you even know half the boot-scootin' boogie, buy something else.

I've reviewed many "dance lesson" DVDs and videos made by professional dancers but they don't come close to the quality and depth of Shawn Trautman's. Their DVDs are well made,( proper lighting, excellent audio, multiple views of the footwork, they zoom in on important technical points). The instruction is clear and the lessons are taught at the perfect pace. It's like having the instructors right there in your home. They speak in detail to both the lead's role and the follower's. They stand and dance as you will while watching and practicing(not facing you so that you have to look over your shoulder while following the moves).

Shawn's tapes are terrific. I also have two of his line dancing CD's. It's like having your own private teacher in your home showing you the steps. I've been taking a dance class and I've truly learned as much from Shawn as I have from the dance class. Simple & easy to learn.

I found these 2 DVD's to be a great starting point for learning how to dance. First, dance foot positions are explained. Next, connection points are expalined. These serve as a foundation for all dances.

Furthermore, the dance moves(i.e. Lunge, underarm turns) that were explained could apply to many different dances. Also, there was an excellent review at the end of each DVD to summarize what was taught.

This DVD seies would be a great place to start if one has never danced before.

This video is nice because it shows you many different camera angles, so if you're a person who has a tough time catching on, that is helpful. However, the dances aren't even taught to good country music and it's hard to adapt the dances to real life. This is a good video if you just want to learn to do them at your own house and dance to the video to get a little exercise.

Buy this along with Beginners Volume 1 and you will be swinging by midnight. This is a fun couple dancing a fun dance. Just watching the DVD for entertainment purposes makes me smile. The Trautman's were born to teach dance, and they do it better than anyone else I have seen. They are not about showing you how good they are at dancing, instead they are about teaching you how to dance well and look good on the dance floor. The speed and repetition in this DVD is easy to follow. Miss a step? No need to stop, rewind, and replay; Shawn and Joanna are going to show it to you again and again, with verbal instructions each step of the way, and views from multiple angles. I bought this some time ago, Shawn does a good job, but as a dancer I have always felt that the explanation's should only come from one instructor.If you listen too both parties, the instruction loses focus
