...for Martin Scorcese that I feel very sorry for his precocious senility. I can't think of any other explanation (there is no excuse) for mistaking di Caprio for an actor (which is about as ludicrous as mistaking McDos for restaurants). And, since he's persisting in polluting the screens with something whose only merit is he never will be a "Has Been" (since he never was anything in the first place), from now on I will keep clear from Scorcese's movies.

If I wanted to watch a bunch of other people singing Leonard Cohen songs interrupted by people talking, I'd go down to the local university quad, sit on the lawn and and roll a joint. (And sorry, Rufus Wainright is extremely overrated; Antony is just a freak show.) However, I was looking for a documentary about the man's life. There is all of about ten minutes of interview with him and about 5 between Bono and Edge, who themselves looked like they had something much more important to do. They didn't inverview Cohen's Buddhist teacher, but that may be his policy. Really the only insight is that Janis Joplin is the girl in "Chelsea Hotel" but even that's on Wikipedia.
Just read his books folks, after all, 4 minutes of the ten minutes ... Read More:

While it was happening, I enjoyed it, though I continued to be mystified by the extreme star status of Diana Lee, the theater director played by Glenn Close, and also the similarly stellar nude photographer Benjamin Stone. How did either of these two get so famous? They treat Diana as though she were Lee Strasberg and Spielberg put together. And Benjamin Stone is presented as some super great Rauschenberg type artist, when the evidence shows he's nothing more than a Herb Ritts. Half the dialogue in the movie is either, "You mean, THE Diana Lee?" or "THE Benjamin Stone," and if I took a drink every time a character said one of these two lines I'd still be drunk three years later. Oh well, the impossible thing to believe is the assignment Isabella ... Read More:

I really enjoyed this DVD very very much. I have listened to the Judy Garland recording probably as many times as any straight man and agree that it is a masterpiece. In no way is Rufus Wainwright comparable to her vocally...its just not close..but WHO CARES? This artist is obviously a big fan and he really pours it out on this performance which is very fun and when you factor in the stunning number of fabulous songs...this is a great collection of well performed standards from the Great American Songbook!
If Judy's performance was captured on film and available on DVD ...I'd say...why bother? But its NOT...so this isn't the travesty or other such nonsense that some reviewers have suggested...but a hoot and a pretty good time to listen ... Read More:

The idea for this movie is excellent. Traveling on a stamp and the special effects. However, I hated the boy Tommy Tricker. He was so mean it made me not want to watch the movie. Yes, his family is poor so he steals, but he never learns any lessons and no one helps him work things out. His character detracts from the cool movie plot of traveling on a stamp. Does there have to be villains in kid's movies ?????

While the intentions of the people who put this benefit tribute together certainly seem very sincere and heartfelt, I just wasn't that hugely impressed by it overall. The vast majority of the people covering John's songs (most of them from his Beatle days) did not personally know him, which probably would have added a deeper level to the covers. Obviously the biggest omissions were Paul and Ringo, and his own son Julian, who seems to be a better musician than Sean. I didn't even recognise some of the singers on the bill. Most of the performances weren't that memorable or moving to me. While well-meaning, this tribute doesn't come anywhere close to the moving professional example of 'The Concert for George,' which had much better direction and selection of musicians.
