Pleasantville is more than just a small-town piece of Americana trapped in a time warp that is fixated on the conservatively clean-cut 1950's, it is a small fictional town that finds itself struggling with social issues that are all too real and timeless for those who continue to struggle with their divisive influences. Racism, bigotry, artistic and intellectual censorship, conformity without question or debate, non-conformity with purpose and hope, and the struggle for individuality are all beautifully and sensitively illustrated though filmic metaphors and touching performances in this family film. Whether you are one who has always found comfort and security conforming to the assertive voices and visions of others or know the personal struggle ... Read More:

Great set!!! Video & audio is state of the art!!!!! One more thing, McCain, Palin and the rest of the neo-cons suck big monkey dong!!!!
Release Date May 25, 2004
First put, this movie has nothing to do with cruel intentions. It is a disgrace to its name and to be associated with it.
The only relevance is the mentioning of the 2 main characters from the last 2 films relating to the main female character. That's it!!! What a shame!
The first movie was the BEST!!! The second...well, it was a pretty decent prequel, thought production value was like a grade-B movie.
This third has a better presentation than the second, but the storyline sucks so bad!!! The characters are very annoying, especially the 2 college guys. The ending is just a waste.

It isn't the film, it's the casting, y'all. I saw it because it is based on someone from my hometown who moved to NYC and became a publicist. Al Pacino no more looks like this man in real life than I do Ava Gardner. And, believe me, I don't look anything like her. You do remember Ava, don't you? Al Pacino was just sleepwalking through the entire film. Who cast all of these well known actors? They simply do not fit. This should have been a gritty film if they were going to end it the way they did. It doesn't know if it wants to be a musical, a Disney film, or an Indy. The whole film is kind of fragmented and doesn't make sense. Too much material for such a little film. I think this was the start of Al Pacino's cinema downfall. He looks and talks the same ... I appreciate the fair warnings about the transfer. I got beat-to-the-punch when someone else stole the only VHS copy I knew of, from the Wherehouse in the late eighties. So, when I happened upon the Laserdisc I added it to my collection of Champagne for Caesar and Susan Slept Here. They seemingly could also only be had in this format, which I'm now grateful for having excellent transfers of all three movies. With such excellent sources as these Laserdiscs, you wonder what could be the problem with making a decent DVD. Champagne for Caesar is also a lousy DVD transfer but it doesn't cost 3.98, it's 22.99.
Well, that being said, this is a marvelous movie. Everyone in it is wonderful though you'd almost have to say this was written expressly for Richard Portnow and ... Read More:
