Juno is important.

That might sound like an overstatment. Given all the rediculous hype surrounding this movie, I'd be likely to agree. But, just the same, this movie is important.

Why?

Because it got a lot of people talking. A lot of people stand against this movie because of it's subject matter; teen pregnancy. While Juno's initial reaction to have an abortion further shocked many people, these were the confused actions of a young woman who, after realizing that she cannot go through with an abortion, goes through the rest of the movie making the best possible decisions from the baby's perspective.

I am a huge fan of the original British version of "The Office". I had serious doubts the American version could be anywhere near as good (I am American, by the way), simply because when you do a remake, it has to breathe and have a life of its own, not merely copy the original. This is not easy to do. But I was swayed by the glowing reviews of fans on Amazon. To my immense disappointment, I could not tolerate more than a few minutes of any episode of Season Two. Hard to say why... Probably it's because I've seen it all before. There is nothing new here. I was hoping for a fresh creation from the same source, not merely a copy of the original (and a less funny one, at that). OK, first off I would like to say that if your like me and don't like watching horror films where the bad guys win, none of them die, and they all kill everyone like they did in the movies "Rest Stop" and "No Country For Old Men". I would very, very, highly, higly reccomend seeing this movie then the Devils Rejects (sequal to this movie) one after the other.

Now on to my review of this movie. It was good, but not geat and it wasn't near as good as Rob Zombies version of Halloween. His is so much better then John Carpenter's and it would be nice to also see Rob Zombie do a remake of the second Halloween. This movie had a funny premise- imagine if your emotionally disturbed, paranoid, violent, neurotic basket-case of an ex-girlfriend also has super powers- and I think it was pulled off tolerably well. Mind you, a lot of it was definitely uncreative assembly-line humor so typical of Hollywood comedy, but I actually laughed out loud at some of the lines, as well as at the sheer unabashed silliness of the movie. I mean, that part where Uma Thurman tried to kill Luke Wilson and his new girlfriend by throwing a live_Great White Shark_through the window of a high rise apartment was just so insanely off the wall, surreal, idiotic and unexpected, I just had to laugh in utter amazement at the writers' obvious derangement. This is an interesting and well done film for anyone into the story of the early days of Earth, Wind & Fire and the evolution of black entertainment of the 60s on. Mario and Mandela van Peebles do an amazing job of playing out the story of the older father son combo that started it all.
