I have no attention span to go back and watch the original El Mariachi in its entirety but Desperado and Once Upon a Time in Mexico make this set a good addition to your collection of movies.
I have personal reasons why I enjoy Desperado the most however don't discredit the last movie in this series. Good movies that you should see at least and the extras are your standard trailers, pictures and commentaries. Geth this set for the movies, not the special features.

The Good Things
*Lots of good action scenes.
*Very excellent, solid filming style and quality. A vast improvement over its predecessor "El Mariachi."
*Not a bad story.
*It's well written.
*Not bad characters. Maybe not as good or memorable as "El Mariachi," but they are fun.
*Good music.
The Bad Things
*Ummm...
The Questionable Things
*A fair amount of absurdity. Some may like it, others won't.
This sequel to is a tremendous improvement over "El Mariachi" in terms of style, action, cameramanship, and overall quality. Only the story and characters seem superior in the predecessor, but are still fun in "Desperado." Anybody who enjoys action films should enjoy ... Read More:

The Good Things
*Lots of exciting action scenes.
*Some bloody violence for those who enjoy it.
*Some funny parts too.
*Excellent filming style. Lots of unique camera angles. Camera shakes around a little, but not irritatingly so. It's a rough style reminiscent of older 70s films.
*Storyline is simple but engaging.
*Characters are excellent. Good acting and writing.
*Good music.
The Bad Things
*Maybe a little too grainy and gritty. It could use some restoration (on the other hand, the grittiness accentuates the rough style).
For such a low-budget movie, this is quite an excellent and exciting (and sometimes humorous) piece of work. It could have been total garbage, but ... Read More:

I bought these movies after reading Robert Rodriguez's book and listening to El Mariachi's commentary. It became a must have in my library because of the high level of instruction both commentaries give.
If you are an indie film maker, pick these up without thinking twice.
If you dig action movies, they are pretty good for that as well. =)

This film is a fun, silly, at a glance three and a half star film. However Johnny Depp, as a mad CIA agent, gets it up to five stars. He is very funny, stylish, suitably psychotic and by the end, though his character is pretty horrible, you feel sympathetic to him and want him to win. The person who wrote the one star review of the film should realise the blood on J Depps face is meant to be styalised. Depp also ad libs tons of great lines. Well done Mr D!

Odds are you're reading this and wondering about Superbit and not about the movies themselves. If you just wanted the movie you'd just get the normal movie and save a few bucks, so I'll address the Superbit stuff here. Can you tell a difference? Yes. Is it dramatic? Sometimes. Sound quality is remarkable but only if your home theatre can render sound extremely well. On normal TV speakers you won't hear a difference. Picture quality is notably better *sometimes*. For example, in the Fifth Element during the taxi scenes or when LeeLoo is being reconstructed, or in Crouching Tiger in many of the outdoor scenes. Since Superbit by definition uses the entire disk for enhanced picture and sound, there are NO DVD extras included. For Fifth Element this is no different ... Read More:
