Locked in the Tower of London and ultimately deprived even of books to read, Sir Thomas refuses to relent, ultimately paying for his principles with his life. Wendy Hiller, a brilliant stage actress is superb as Sir Thomas' wife, and it would be difficult to find a more convincing King Henry than Robert Shaw. For the collector, this movie is a must

I cry everytime I watch this movie. I'm not much for the romantic boo-hoo films, but this one is an exception. It is heartbreaking to see what these two sacrifice just to be near each other. True Love is one of the most exhilarating and wonderful feelings you could ever experience. But it is also one of the worst kinds of pain you could ever feel. This movie really expounds on that truth.
When you love someone so greatly and so completely you will stop at nothing to be with them, do anything to keep them safe and give up everything just to see them happy.

In 1980, when this film was released, there was quite a bit of controversy, most of it ill-founded. There were complaints about incest, but the two children are not brother and sister: Emmeline clearly addresses Arthur Lestrange as Uncle, while Richard calls him Father, so the closest they could be is cousins, and the use of Uncle may have been conventional (indicating guardianship) rather than literal. There were complaints about showing a 14-year-old actress nude, but they used body doubles for all of the nude scenes (Brooke Shields spends some of the commentary pointing which body double was used for which scene).

Classic Disney movie worth watching and owning. I recommend this one for the whole family. It is full of antics and kid drama.

An orphan on the street finds out she may be the inheritor of the rich "candleshoe" estate. Only the estate is poor shape. The orphan (foster)has to come to the estates' rescue.
