I can't believe this movie didn't do well with the critics. I guess cynicism has no place in this movie, so they felt left out. Terrific family movie, love story, musical, inspirational film. I have recommended it to many of my friends and family. I also purchased the CD and listen to it in the car quite a bit. Robin Williams is a kick, and Jonathan Rhys Meyers is compelling, and he really sang his own part. The musical talent is awesome, and there's real joy conveyed throughout the film, even when times are tough.

Skipped this one in the theatre due to media overexposure of the infamous "Couch Jumping Incident" at the time. Big mistake on my part. This movie kicks major you-know-what and any action movie fan with a heartbeat should find it suitably, uh, "fibrillating". Minus one star for the razor thin plot, but let's face it - that's not why you watch a movie like this. Great action setpieces (see: "Bridge Scene"), uniformly great casting (Hoffman oozes evil as the villain) and roller coaster pacing that, as they say, takes you for a ride and never lets go. Pure awesomeness.

P.S. Does Michelle Monaghan have a sister?

P.P.S. I want a Lamborghini. And Maggie Q as my full time driver :-)

The critical buzz about Woody Allen's latest film, Match Point, is that it's his best since (fill in the blank), and, to a degree, that's true. The last of his films to attain even a limited greatness was 1999's Sweet And Lowdown, with the magnificent performances of Sean Penn and Samantha Morton, and the last flat out great Allen film was 1992's Husbands And Wives. But a case can be made that this film is his best since 1989's Crimes And Misdemeanors, the film which is its most obvious philosophic and narrative ancestor. That said, in a sense, this film is also sort of a `Best Of' Woody Allen film, which reuses many of the best scenes and motifs of his best work.

I can understand the good and bad reviews for this movie. It's high-energy fun, a teen flick without too much stupid silliness or any of those contrived "misunderstandings" that are so common in comedies. The teen characters are irresistibly cute, the culture clashes are funny and not overdone, and the soccer scenes are exciting (I wish there were more of them).

But if the messages in this movie about "girl power" and following your dreams are going to be taken half seriously, then there's much to criticize. Most of the Indian girls and boys seem obsessed with sex, shopping, and early marriage. The girls lie to their parents time and time again. This was a "Bible" series video? Give me a break! There was nothing biblical at all in this farce of a dramatization. The acting was aweful, just aweful! This was a total waste of money. I wish I could give this a minus 1. I regret I ever bought this waste of videography. I just turned it off after 30 minutes, too disgusted to view any further.

I didnt know about this movie(or it missed me somehow), I acutally saw it a day ago on the IFC channel on cable, I was blown away. Admittedly not of that generation or movement (actually born just as it probably got started).

I do recall as a young boy growing up in London during the late 70's "this stuff" being on the radio, like many things it took my growing into adulthood and perhaps being nostalgic for a time period I sailed through in complete oblivion to have a appreciative look back. As a guy whos musical genre leanings dont tend to lean in this direction there are a number of true musical gems that this movie brought to my attention.

Julie Taymor's highly stylized, complex vision of "The Lion King" on stage is a testament to her prowess as a power player in the theatrical arena; main issue is it doesn't translate to the highly ambitious, but oftentimes, unintentional insanity that is TITUS.

I have an affinity for Hopkins (who doesn't?), but even he can't save this jumbled flim-flam from the very beginning. The ticker-tape parades, the "Dr. No-esque" costumes of the wannabe emperors, the Goth "teens" obsession with a simpering, unimpressive, slightly *unattractive* (could they put more color into her face please!) Lavinia, were completely unbelievable.
