I was in the mood for an old-school style murder/detective flick, and plugged this one in. 60 seconds into the film I get hit with a MAJOR "double" topless scene starring Reese Witherspoon (10 years younger). Gratuitous? Anyway, after re-gathering and re-trenching from that, I did indeed settle down into a Humphrey Bogartesque murder mystery.
Maybe the most significant mark of this film is the very heavy-duty cast . . . Paul Newman (aged like fine wine), Gene Hackman (the BEST), Susan Sarandon (hate her politics but enjoy her work, and again, a gratuitous look at her backside), James Garner (fortunately, no skin shots here), Reese Witherspoon (all of her), Stockard Channing (I don't care for her, personally, but she is a NAME). ... This DVD was a fun way to teach about stranger safety without scaring my daughter in the process. The points made in the video were clear and to the point and the production was funny and colorful!

Before No Country For Old Men, before The Big Lebowski, and before Fargo; Joel and Ethan Coen crafted this homage to the crime-noir. Blood Simple stars Dan Hedaya as a sleezy bar owner who plots to have his cheating wife (Frances McDormand in her screen debut) and his bartender (John Getz) with whom she is having an affair murdered. Things don't quite go as planned however when the hitman he hires (M. Emmet Walsh) turns the tables, and things begin to spiral out of control for everyone involved. Simply speaking, Blood Simple is a riveting ride with plenty of atmosphere and even some unnerving moments that seem straight out of a horror flick, and for it's entire running time will keep you glued to the screen. It isn't as sophisticated or well-crafted ... Read More:

I first saw this movie when I was a kid. But now that it is available on DVD, watching it again after 30 years sure brings back memories of the way comedies were done in the early 70s. Striesand was at her usual self, a good role for her and she went on to do better in THE MAIN EVENT pairing up again with O' Neal. Just wondering how the two felt about each other when they were cast again in opposite roles...But the climax in What's Up Doc is the judge in the court turns up to be Streisand's father. That's a good one. Peter, the director, must be given the credit to come up with the idea. I bought two discs, and the other would be given to a friend who is celebrating his birthday soon. When the movie was made, he had turned two. So he didn't have the ... Read More:

The Eagles - Hell Freezes Over
If you like the Eagles at all then you must purchase this DVD. The sound and quality are excellent. Closest thing to being there in person.
You will not be disappointed with this purchase. If you have surround sound even better. Enjoy!

First things first. This is one of the best horror movies I've seen in years. I'm happy that three of my favorite, recent horror films (1408, EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE and THE RING) have been PG-13. They rely more on great writing than gore. The two-disc DVD of 1408 had a second disc with the director's original ending, which was a bit of a downer. I understood why it was reshot, as the ending shown in theaters framed the action with a bit more meaning and a bit less nihilism. Anyway, I bought the blu-ray version for the better picture quality and the slimmer, space-saving package. In checking the packaging, it looked like the blu-ray was pretty much the same as the two-disc DVD. WRONG! THE BLU-RAY HAS THE DIRECTOR'S CUT ENDING! Nowhere on the package ... Read More:

Ralph Macchio, (best known from the Karate Kid) plays a classical guitar virtuoso at Julliard School for the Performing Arts in Brooklyn, NY. His talent is classical music but his love is for the Blues. He befriends an old, broken-down man blues and alleged cohort of Robert Johnson, living in a New York retirement home. This movie takes the Robert Johnson myth to another level suggesting that Mr. Johnson's friend, "Blind Dog" Fulton/Willie Brown also did business with the devil. Ry Cooder, the genius musician and producer, performs the blues music. Steve Vai, lead guitarist for David Lee Roth, makes a cameo. This was overall a great film with several good Blues performances. The acting was very solid. I recommend this film.

I fell in love with this precocious little boy and his iron alien friend the first time my family saw it in theatres. So of course I had to have the special edition DVD, bought cheaply because, for some odd reason, the uncultured masses have no appreciation for this story.
Trust me. Pop this into the DVD player and enjoy one of the most magical movies to come along in a while.
Set during the Cold War, this is the story of young Hogarth Hughes who is not only cursed with that awful name but a gifted mind that has popped into an older grade where he is tormented by bullies. His single mom works as a waitress, so Hogarth is pretty much on his own until an adventure leads him to discover a giant robot that happens to have no idea why he is ... Read More:

Absorbing and crowd-pleasing adaptation of Aaron Sorkin's hit Broadway play from director Rob Reiner about two Marines charged with the murder of a fellow GI at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba with a tangled web of power and a green defense lawyer (excellently played by Cruise) assigned to follow the motions without a trial. Superb performances all around especially Nicholson in rare form as a colonel with one hell of a Napoleon complex. Trivial note: Bodison was a production assistant to Reiner from previous films; this is his acting debut.
