The reviewer who claims that this film was originally made in 4:3 format is quite wrong. Perhaps he means the original video, which was certainly cut to fit a standard TV. But this good DVD is correctly formatted, and nothing has been cut off from the top or bottom.

That having been said, this is a very comprehensive set. The 36' documentary with reminiscences of the film's crew is fun and enlightening. One comes away with the feeling, as if we couldn't guess from the film itself, that spirits were high (pardon the expression) and everyone felt this would be something special.

The remastering here is quite good, tho perhaps not quite Criterion quality. The sound seems just a bit flat, and is much fuller in the restored ... Read More:

What a shame,it seems that movie companies only release Beatle classics on a limited term!!! I'm sure that a 40th Anniversary Edition might easily be on the way but I don't know!!! I'm glad I bought a copy of it when it was in print,because it is no out of print and fetching high dollars on auction sites such as Ebay!!! This WAS a great release from MGM,nice vibrant Widescreen(although it was non-anamorpic,it was'nt to bad sice it was 1.66!)transfer,the soundtrack was awesome too!!! And this disc had some choice extras,although not overstuffed with them!!! Let's hope that with Blu Ray here,maybe a reissue is in the near future,as well as a new DVD,well,lets keep our fingers crossed!!! The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy is one of those films that seems a lot better if one has not read the source material it's based upon- in this case the series of Hitchhiker books by Douglas Adams, the BBC radio shows, or the 1970s BBC television series of the same name. This was manifest immediately to me, as one who'd seen the repeats of the tv show on PBS, but never read the books. In just briefly skimming the online critical consensus this seems confirmed, for rarely does a film elicit such widely divergent reactions. This film has one thing going for it (and only one thing): Kate Hudson is hilarious playing the psycho girlfriend (and I've had a couple). Unfortunately, that might be enough for a 5-minute SNL skit or a guest appearance on a show like "Friends", but it's not enough to carry a 2-hour movie. This DVD is simply great, if you are even slightly interested in John Lennon.
It contains so much "behind the scenes" footage, that I was very surprised that he was as accessible as he appears in this documentary.
One scene shows a lost young man, who trespasses on Lennon's property in London. Mr. Lennon was kind and empathetic enough to go out and talk with the fan, and then subsequently invite him in to eat at their table.
It's kind of freaky, in a way that might portend his final chapter.
I was never overly impressed with Lennon's singing voice, and I can deal with the politics, since he seemed genuine in his efforts. What I always admired about Mr. Lennon and the older version of the Beatles, is that he could really JAM. This DVD intertwines so much of his best ... Read More:

Ripping through "Drinkin Wine". Everyone in the group is just smilin' ear to ear-thrilled to be up on this stage in front of the festivals second day Saturday afternoon crowd. I have a new idol. He's the bass playing big papa bear cool cat with the cheshire cat grin, the shades and the bushy goatee-one Harvey Brooks.
