I love this DVD. I love Jay-Z as an artist. His style and skills are so impressive. The Black Album was a great album within itself. Just seeing his creativity and the creativity of the other artsts involved was incredible. The concert was amazing and getting a behind-the-scenes look into the making of the concert and album was truly awesome!

The documentary was very informative and did a great job at displaying the roots of hip hop and deciphering the difference between hip hop and rap. I have a new found respect for the turntablists in the game. Beastie Boys have impressed me much more after taking the time to listen to the layers behind their clever lyrics and listen to the scratching being done by mix master Mike.

The Place Promised in Our Early Days is Makoto Shinkai's first full length movie. In this one he has attempted to broaden his focus beyond what he did with Voices of a Distant Star, taking more time to flesh out a plot that reaches beyond his main characters. In broadening his focus I feel that this movie loses a little in terms of characterization: where 'Voices' was very emotionally moving, this film is less so. Don't get me wrong, it is a great film, and what the director does here in terms of emotional depth is well beyond the reach of anyone except perhaps Miyazaki. However, I feel that Makoto Shinkai will do better with future films as he matures and finds his perfect balance.

I love Beanie Sigel. He is the most underrated rapper out of Rocafella Records but this movie stunk like roadkill. Beanie plays a bully who runs around with a group of thugs that beat up on people in their hometown and issue them a warning that goes "get down or lay down"! The main flaw of the movie is that nobody can act. Beanie is so laughable in his role that sometimes I crack up when he comes on screen. He is not the only one who should stick to rapping. Memphis Bleek's character was a riot for all the wrong reasons(when he shot a Beanie's car for honking the horn at him, I laughed so hard that I peed a little. Damon Dash and Jay-z are stiff as mannequins in this movie also. You cant tell that the director knew that this film was rank and told them to keep going anyway. ... Read More:

First off I thought this dvd was longer because I saw the mid to end of beef 2. In the intro they talk about the beefs that show up on beef 2, could be why the first 2 came off so strong? Loved all the old school stuff, I still have a copy of the Busy B Kool Mo Dee battle. This was a great look into a lot of good battles and beefs. Common killing Cube with one of the sickest tracks ever. Speaking of Common, if anyone should have taken offense to his now classic "I Used to Love HER" it should have been Das EFX and Onyx. Hope they get back on track with 5.

Classic Album: Reasonable Doubt

VH1 delivers a classic recreation of the making of hip-hop titan Jay-Z's debut album Reasonable Doubt. Packed with intriguing, informative interviews and commentary from various artists involved with the production of the music, the DVD definitely kept my attention. I really enjoy watching the passion with which Jay-Z explains the lyrics to some of his hit records, including "D'Evils." The only downside would be the abscence of Damon Dash, obviously due to the Roc-A-Fella breakup. I would have liked to hear Dame's poignant recollections of the time period that led to the birth of one of the most groundbreaking albums in New York rap. Other that that, this DVD is incredible. A must have for any true Jigga fan.

We all wanna ball and we all wanna floss. Rocafella was that crew that showed us how to get that dough and how to do it in style. Jay, Dame, Biggs and the crew was doing it BIG. Loved the videos for all of VOL 1, especially Face Off (Redbones galore) and You Must Love Me.
