Tchaikovsky - Pique Dame / Gergiev, Grigorian, Leiferkus, Kirov Operastarring: Gegam Grigorian, Sergei Leiferkus, Olga Borodina, Valery Gergiev Release Date July 16, 2002 This is pretty good opera, considering that it was recorded over 10 years ago. Typical sets and singing manner of Russian vocal school of that era (and I grew up there). Of course, it is not comparable to any of the newer productions from Met or La Scala; however, considering that this opera is not a very popular choice for opera houses by some reason (although I truly think that this is one of the best operas by Thaikovsky), it is worth to buy. |

Bellini - Normastarring: Hasmik Papian, Gegam Grigorian, Vardouhi Khachatrian, Boris Airapetian, Armenia Opera directed by: Boris Airapetian Release Date February 13, 2007 Poor Hasmik Papian. She can't seem to get documented in a halfway decent production of her widely traveled Norma. I reported a few months ago on a production from Amsterdam, which had a resoundingly silly backstage "All About Eve" plot corresponding with the real one; it seemed to have been made by a team that spent too much time smoking reefer in a coffeehouse (hey, it's allowed there). The latest bungling is billed as "A Film by Boris Airapetian," which features an all-Armenian cast, along with Papian, the most renowned being Gegam Grigorian.
