Perhaps the best interpretation of "The Nutcracker" ever made. Baryshnikov's finest hour. And as even the most ballet-ignorant know, that bar's set pretty high.
I have seen Mikhail Baryshnikov dance in the much-praised chick-flick "The Turning Point." And I have seen him dance his own interpretation of "Don Quixote." Good. Great, even. But not as much as fellow Russkie ballerino Nureyev's stab at "Quixote." And I have seen much more of him dancing. The man defies gravity, as well as many other laws. A ballet dancer, in the country of America, has been treated like a movie star. But this may very well be his best work, artistic-wise.
Mikhail Baryshnikov is man who hardly needs an introduction, as he is a man who is synonymous ... Read More:

When I was young, I watched this show and loved the cartoon segments, but hated the live action segments. Now that I went back and saw them on this collection, the few good live action segments are the only things that are keeping me from making a fire out of this collection. The cartoons had such terrible stories, jokes and animation. I liked Dennis Hopper playing Koopa in the '93 movie, but the lines they gave this guy, and the look of him, almost made me want to throw up. For the live action segments, the storylines were okay (sometimes), the guest stars were very rarely good, but Elvis Presley and a few more were awesome, being, again, the only thing keeping me from burning this set with marshmallows. Plus, the picture quality on this was dirt-poor. ... Read More:

I've always loved the Super Mario Bros. Super Show, and I'm glad I can get it on DVD. I'm glad they put the whole episode on instead of cutting them up. Great quality, and the extras are pretty neat, too!

This movie is wonderful.I love it.It lets you see that what is on the inside is important not what is on the outside.A great movie to lift you up when your feeling down.

I have seen many other versions of this ballet, but Ms. Harvey is superb. She outshown Mikail Baryshnikov. She is wonderful. I fully enjoyed the ballet, but most especially her excellent performance!

Good remake. I think what's remarkable about this version is that it was done LIVE twice on the same day (once each for the West Coast & East Coast). What really would have been COOL, Attention WARNER BROS HOME VIDEO, is if BOTH perforamnces would have been put on the DVD. In fact, I would have gladly paid more for a 2 DVD set containing BOTH performances. Warners, please reissue this DVD, and include BOTH performances of Failsafe. Thank you. P.S. Failsafe made it to T.V. in 2000, months before 9/11. Had the airing been scheduled after 9/11, it never would have made it to T.V. The dialog regarding New York would have been deemed way to harsh, and I would have agreed with this.

I am going to break away from the pack and call this one a five star movie. It is a slow movie, unless you are constantly analyzing the actors, and why they did this or that, or played it this way or that way, which is the way I viewed it. I found the performances riveting and could not take my eyes or mind off the Peter Fonda character--such great acting as a pale, insecure, asylum inmate. Warren Beatty does not have a huge body of work--has restricted himself--so you take a greater interest in the parts he plays and why he plays them. He is always good. This movie about asylum innmates and the medical staff is fascinating. Made in the sixties, it is a great groundbreaker for "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" and "Awakenings." The added ingredient would be romantic obsession. If ... Read More:

Irony? It's a pity. Back when this movie was originally made in 1975, movies starring black artists had a tendency to be short on plot, budget, & actual input from the actors. There was precious little input from the members of EWF, & the story line suffered. Of course Sig Shore of Superfly fame was notorious for these movies, & in true form the REAL stars of the movie, EWF,had little more than a cameo appearance in a movie named after their breakthrough LP. They litteraly mirrored the record labels brush off of the Group (EWF) in the movie. Although the live footage, & the instrumental backing done by EWF was stellar, there was precious little of it. Even Harvey Kietel couldn't save such a bad script. Sad to say most record companys still do business in this fashion, so the ... Read More:

I bought this tape on laser disc format almost twenty years ago,and got rid of it when DVD came out. These days I still watch it once in a while and the ABT magic still dazzles me, to put it simply, it's a gem. There are four programs each one with its own mood and style. Les Sylphides is elegant and graceful, Sylvia-Pas de deux shows off Martine Van Hamel and Patrcik Bissell's dazzling technigue, Triad, with the smooth and agile movements of the dancers, and Paquita is appropriately the grand finale of the evening that offers ABT's numerous talents to the gratification of the audience. It is worth noticing that almost all the dancers in this tape are retired ... Read More:
