GSH is a well made film that trys to show the darker side of football in the UK. It deals with a group of men who spend most of their days drinking at the pub and trying to find new ways to get into fights with revial football fans. Inserted into this group is a young American fresh from being thown out of college. Inside this "gang" he finds friends and a kind of family that he never had. A story of sticking together when the chips are down, GSH is a mix of Fight Club and The Boondock Saints, and anyone who enjoyed those films will enjoy this. The only things I didnt like was that the movie never really shows or talks about these men in the "real world" of thier daily lifes. We are shown little bits, but I would like to know more about why ... Read More:

This is a great story of personal redemption, laced with awesome action sequences and spectacular sound. The angles and editing are fantastic, and the "crisis" of consciousness that the characters face, along with the humurous sub plot of Nick Cage's character all blend for a fun, entertaining action movie.

I don't like many Bay movies because he has very little skill in crafting a honest and detailed movie. Armageddon was a horrendous piece of donkey dung, everything that's wrong with Hollywood was detailed in that schlock! The Rock is a slightly different proposition, it's entertaining and never tries to be anything but! The story is thin and the dialogue is typically bad at times. The action is excellent and Sean Connery makes the movie work! The direction is very Mtv, the editing is silly at times - what's with the quick cuts? Why can't I enjoy the compositions? Pathetic! But still, the pace is consistent. The acting is okay, Connery's presence elevates the material. Ed Harris is always dependable and Cage is pretty funny as Goodspeed. The music is very patriotic ... Well, if you aren't touched at least 65 minutes into the film (the hospital scene), I don't know when it'll hit you. Wow. Great performances by Anthony Hopkins as Bill Parrish and Brad Pitt, as Joe (Death) Black. Claire Forlani couldn't have been better cast for her part as Susan (Bill's daughter); a doctor in the hospital in which Joe makes an unscheduled visit. There's also a very touching scene between Bill (speaking of his late wife) and Joe, over a cold lamb sandwich.
Jeffrey Tambor as Quince, and Marcia Gay Harden as Allison ("throwing the Birthday Party of the Century" - for her Dad, Bill) lend great support to this story of a man's soon-to-be demise from the world. And Jake Weber as Drew, the long-suffering boyfriend of Susan (and also the back-stabbing business ... Read More:

I decided to watch this the other night, despite its reputation as a really bad film. Well, my low expectations were met. It's an OK concept (rejected superheroes team up to gain self respect), but the execution of the film is all wrong. It might have been better (though not by much) as a sketch, not a full length feature film (and it's a relatively long film at 2 hours). It has a great cast (William H. Macy, Greg Kinnear, Geoffrey Rush, Janeane Garofalo, Hank Azaria), but here they try way too hard to make this film "hip" and "cool", and they fail, simply because the source material is tired and lame. There is only so much good actors can do when the script is chop blocking them at the knees when the refs aren't looking. Ben Stiller looks like he's channeling his Bruce Springsteen ... Read More:

...and he was incredible as Andy Warhol. Creepy silences, slow movements, that voice. I really enjoyed watching him most of all. And I read on imdb.com that he wore some of Andy Warhol's real wigs! That must have been an awesome experience, to portray someone you admired in real life. Jeffrey Wright was impressive as Basquiat, and seeing Christopher Walken is always a treat. I didn't know much about Basquiat before watching this, but I appreciate his work more after catching this short glimpse of his world, dingy NYC in the 1980s, lifestyles of eccentric artists, drugs, music, etc. Definitely watch if you're a fan of Basquiat or any of the fine actors here.
