RENEE ZELLWEGER plays such a klutzy frump of a girl in this British screwball comedy that it's hard to imagine COLIN FIRTH and HUGH GRANT fighting over her. We're told that it's because she so "natural" that she has men buzzing around her. Well, that might be true if Miss Zellweger looked more like Carole Lombard. In fact, one could easily see this as a screwball comedy back in the '30s if Hollywood made the story starring Lombard, Cary Grant (not Colin Firth) and James Stewart (not Hugh Grant). Get my drift? Instead, Miss Zellweger looks more like pudgy Lynn Redgrave of "Georgy Girl," an overweight and rather awkward young woman given to wearing tight clothing and making the most inappropriate remarks at the most crucial moments. She speaks ... Read More:

It is good to see how this show develops and have a happy ending. The people in this show also show how much true love can be so within reach and that you just need to face your own feelings. Love this show!!
During a business trip to Washington, D.C., I saw the original Rylstone calendar on which the movie was based. I was intrigued, to say the least so had to see the film when it came out. Later, I bought the DVD (this, like a similar film--The Full Monty--is one you'll want to have in your DVD library).
The film is loosely based on a true story, of a North Yorkshire District Women's Institute group who posed for a caalendar to raise money for a hospital waiting room sofa where John, the husband of one of the members had died of leukemia.
It is a story of love and compassion, and also of the problems brought on by fame. It is heartwarming, humorous, witty, touching, and utterly charming.

It's really hard to find a good funny, not sleazy; comedy these days but this one makes the grade. Renee is funny, Hugh is his usual charming self, and Colin is one of the most under appreciated actors of this day. Here's one the whole family can watch and still not snooze.

First of all I have to say that Highlander is one of the greatest fantasy pictures of all time. I saw it for the first time on DVD, the one DVD that Republic put out back in 1997. Now of course I was not too big on picture quality and audio and widescreen ratios but as the years passed my mind changed. The DVD did suck balls despite the THX logo on the front of it. So much for a good transfer. But it was a huge improvement over the theatrical release on videotape. So when I saw the 2-Disc Immortal Edition online and on shelves I decided to have it for myself. I bought this bad boy for only 9 bucks at a Wal-Mart and thankfully Anchor Bay put it out. Now Anchor Bay does a kickass job with their DVD titles and Highlander really comes to life in the Immortal Edition. It ... Read More:

Excellent performance by all the great and so known actors. A masterpiece after the Agatha Christie's novel not only for the technical production, (sets, locations, photography) but also for the music and all the talent of the great stars joined here by the first time like P. Ustinov, B. Davies, M. Farrow, M. Smith, D. Niven and G. Kennedy. We can remebre all of them for all times. I think this film is a treasure and a tribute at the same time. A classic film for a good expert in mystery movies.

Although this movie was critically and publically panned, I honestly think that it is the BEST film adaptation of Mary Shelley's classic novel. Critics complained about the film, saying that it was too grotesque, too melodramatic, too epic. What critics failed to realize is that THAT is exactly what a Gothic Romance story is: melodramatic, epic, exaggerated, but still wildly poignant. I am not a huge Branagh fan, but I love this film. The cast is excellent, the period setting is done beautifully, and the exaggerated sets and bright colors (especially the wide use of the color red)perfectly capture the scope of Shelley's novel. Yes, there are changes, but many of them I liked: Henry Clerval (the wonderfully quirky Tom Hucle) is not murdered by the Creature (played wonderfully ... Read More:

This movie was the closest Ive seen in comparison with the book. I love this famous Christmas story, and since there are so many different variations out there, I couldn't help but read the book. I was very impressed with how close this was with the book. I really love this version.
