"Sleep When I'm Dead" is definitely the most Cure-like of the new singles, and a little adventurous even. Sure, as with all of the singles the sound quality lacks, is far too compressed, and lacking character, but song-wise this is definitely the best. Plus, "Down Under" is one of the best recorded new songs I've heard!

Both songs are great! I personally like the second song better however they are both great!

No this single isn't going to change the world or stop world hunger. But as far as Cure tunes go, this is a classic. Bob's doing just what he wants, just like he's done since 'Japanese Whispers'. Aside from the fact thats its a 'head on the door' out take, its got everything this old school cure fan expects-psychedelic guitars, textural layers, and lyrics that reward multiple listens. Oh and he's taking the piss outta all the naysayers to boot. 'Down Under' is a great trippy, aural tune that sticks in the brain and leaves me wanting more. It's great to hear Porl back on guitars. If that's a throw away track I cant wait to see whats on the album.

The production of the new Cure material leaves a lot to be desired. Where it lacks in meledy and song structure, there's an attempt to make up for it with loud, over the top vocals that nearly make your ears bleed. Sleep when I'm dead could have been an awesome song as lyrically it's one of Robert's better tracks, but I find it very abrasive and difficult to listen to. Down Under is catchy but sort of blah. Not a typical blow your mind Cure b-side. I'm not all that impressed. The Cure need to stop trying to be edgy and whatever the heck they're attempting and just stick with the type of production and engineering that has worked for them. The new singles sounds a lot like their previous self titled album. So if you dug that you'll dig this. I long for the more mesmerizing and melodic sounds of past albums like Bloodflowers or Wish which highlighted Robert's voice better than the current mix and production. I'm not living in the past, but Robert needs to stick with what makes his vocals pleasant and appealing instead of the angry in your face stuff he's been recording.

This is the best single so far. A Cure fan will not be disappointed. The B side is excellent as well. By the way...the Billboard chart this week for Singles (Sales) shows the three Cure singles in the top ten and Sleep When I'm Dead is in #4.
