Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Interesting...
Recently, I was listening to Chrisette Michele's "I'm In This For You" and immediately thought Black Thought should be rhyming over this track. The track, if you get to hear it, is vintage Roots. Which brings me to my issues with Rising Down...the rhymes of Black Thought are always on point, but he has monotoned voice. The musical production on this and the 2 preceding releases do little to compliment his rhymes. Black is by far the most unheralded great MC on the planet. He never disappoints. The musical production, however, has become stale. When I bought Phrenology, I knew the Roots had turned a corner musically. Not that it's a problem but the fans who followed from Organix raised an eyebrow. Less nu-soul/Fender Rhodes, more experimentation with rock and other sounds. It's good for artists to grow, but for a group that has always fought for thier artistic control you would expect more of a sonic charge. Don't get me wrong Rising Down is a good CD but it's a little on the repetitive side. In short, it's boring. This and Tipping Point make me wonder have the guys past thier peak.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Classic as usual
I'm from Colombia. I have all The Roots albums. I'm more than a fan. Always be a critic with their work. I'be never felt disapointed.
This album is really great. I have just heard it twice cause i got it yesterday, but, I'm really happy with this sound. Real Hip-Hop don't die.
The sound is kinda dark like Game Theory was but that's not bad. Lyrically, this album is really mature.
It has some great guest artits that I like a lot like Common, Mos and Kwe.
PD: I would like to hear Nas one day with The Roots.
Peace!

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Where's the MP3?
If this was available as an MP3 I would have purchased it by now. Instead Def Jam is going to have to wait, wait, wait for my money... Tisk tisk... Time to get with the program folks...

Oh, and I love The Roots...

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - The Roots "Rising Down"- 4.25
The Roots' 9th album (counting "Come Alive") is a solid effort from the veteran group. Continuing where they left off from "Game Theory", Black Thought and the crew again deliver great hip hop music. As always, Black Thought is on point and almost flawless lyrically. The production on this album is great throughout, with a misstep here or there. The biggest flaw this album has is the guest appearances. Don't get me wrong, Mos Def, Styles P, Saigon, Talib Kweli, Common and a few others all deliver pretty well, but there is no reason that I should have to list that many names. Take it how you want to, but overall this album is definitely worth picking up, especially if you are a Roots fan.

Lyrics- 9/10
Production- 9/10
Guest Appearances- 7/10
Overall Sound- 9/10

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - A MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT
Wow. The Roots are no longer THE ULTIMATE! After 4 mediocre albums (in a row), they are now THE ORDINARY! Black Thought continues to demonstrate his lyrical dexterity on this album. The musical production, however, leaves much to be desired. What happened to the musical creativity evident on Organix, Do You Want More!!?, Illadelph Halflife, and Things Fall Apart? There are about 4 (max 5) bangers on this album - if they took the best tracks from this, Game Theory, Tipping Point and Phrenology, it would be on par with the first 4. I would suggest purchasing as singles. Buying the entire album is a waste of currency.
