- A lesser effort from a musical genius
I have nothing but the highest praise for Loreena and her amazing band, That said this is no Mask and Mirror. I can't fault the execution by the musicians or the production quality, it all comes down to lack of memorable passages. There is just nothing here that isn't immediately forgetable even if it is nice while being played. nothing bad just nothing new.

As always, her music takes me to another time, another place. When I play this CD I can feel all the tension and stress flow out of my body.

The music is beautiful; it either is or seems to be, some ancient, wonderfully mystical stuff. We saw (and heard) Ms. McKinnit on public television and I looked up the CD on Amazon, something I do often. My husband often plays the CD in the shop while he's working (he builds Windsor chairs and restores antiques. So thank you for finding it for us -- Diana Strelow

More listening pleasure from the talented Loreena McKennitt! The long-awaited "An Ancient Muse" is nearly as delightful as "The Mask and Mirror" and "The Book of Secrets". We were fortunate to see McKennitt at the majestic Wang Theater in Boston and the sets, musicians and performance was fantastic! The influence of her Celtic interests and Morrocan and Spanish travels come through again in this her most recent CD. Each time I listen to it, I like it more!

A bit disappointing for me. Not quite up to her usual superb style, still it is Loreena and she's a cut above the rest - even when she's not at her best!
