Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Muse at their poorest (for now)
...now I wrote this review on the UK amazon and got voted down...alot...but I think this needs to be said...

...the album Origin of Symetry literally changed the way I thought about music (before you say anything I'm not that old) and absolution and showbiz tie in for a close second...mainly because absolution tried many different styles even though some worked and some didn't...and showbiz was a very good debut but the mainstream production (thank you maverick) and the randomness of the song order spoiled it ever so slightly (I think sunburn would have done better nearer the end...) and then we have this...muse always want to try new things...and what do we get? Some commercial drivel...Origin of Symetry grabbed me in one listen...showbiz in two and absolution in three...I listened to this about 8 times only to be appalled at the commercialness...and what's more you have magazines like NME supporting them for creating such an awful awful (in my opinion) and also uncomplex (descending scales in Knights of Cydonia...really? Wow...) um...crap basically...and let me show you why...

Take a Bow 6/10: Showbiz started with a piano ostinato...as did Origin...absolution started with marching...then a piano ostinato...so although it's nice that instead they started with a bass that reminds me of an aeroplane...the lyrics "Corrupt your corrupt/you destroy all that you touch" anti political? Um...not really...then it goes dance(ish) but unlike Bliss doesn't keep any interest...and gets boring...

Starlight 7/10: Now I'll admit there were times when I thought this song was good; the pianos were soothing and Matts voice went pretty well with the distorted bass line...and then the explosion of synthy keyboards...followed by repeating the name of the album...then it's more or less the same...a pretty good concept but the radio over played this song so much I can't stand it...Matt's voice sounded slightly more annoying then I first thought and hearing the piano makes me want to find some prozac and flush it down the toilet (pointless metaphor #67)...but yes....it's all about what music you like...it's too poppy for me...

Super massive Black Hole 6/10: Another song the radio decides to kill...along with MTV2...which is a shame because Floria made the video very dark and sinister...but Matt's cheesy falsetto lyrics just don't work...this is the kind of stuff you'd hear at a club trying to say "Yeah we like rock music too look we played Moose...I mean Muse..." And glaciers melting in the dead of night...is he singing about an innuendo or is he trying to be political again I just don't know...my instinct says I shouldn't care but my common sense says...this has all been done before and I expected more from muse...

Map of the Problematique 6/10: Ugh...dry...very bland...I think they're trying to be atmospheric...which they could if they weren't so relient on a mix of synths and pianos...I'd expect this from mediocore bands...not muse...

Soldiers Poem 4/10: I sense someone trying to make a new Blackout...which I thought still wasn't a great song but it had it's moment of touchingness...two minutes long...something about soldiers in Iraq but it's too short to pay attention...songs like this need time to progress...

Invincible 6/10: They say this song was inspired by David Bowie...well I don't know much of his work so I can't really say...but it kind of moves in this dreary and calm cheery manner...it feels like there's going to be a cliax...and then there's a key change and suddenly this vaguely interesting solo...it's fast but remains in the key we were already in...therefore I don't feel that interested...sorry...my expectations of muse were too high...I'm so arrogant...

Assasin 8/10: Hmm...yes...ok...I see...probably the best song in my opinion...so I'll keep it a surprise...oh what joy suspense gives...not really...

Exo Politics 7/10: Wow...very simple riffs...a guitar solo that follows after the second chorus...predictable? Yes...but it is done pretty well and would be acceptable...not until our leaders tell us why? I see...my sarcasm is irritating me now...

City of Delusion 7/10: My opinion about this song changes alot...not inspiring when I heard it...but when seen live the chorus did indeed feel much more epic...but of course the epyleptic light show did help that...on the album the big explosion in the chorus just isn't as grand as you think it would be...and kind of hits the tipof the jug without knocking it over (pointless metaphor #96)...good live...mediocore otherwise...but of course Muse become gods when they're live...

Hoodoo ?/10: ...um...I forgot what this song sounded like...this was probably the reason I got voted down so much due to inaccuracy but obviously if it didn't stand out would I want to listen to it again?

Knights of Cydonia 6/10: ...well...what to say...it's a cowboy themed spae man ninja (thus the music video)...and yes it has a lot of notes and it has a mosh worthy part...but it's just a descending scale and doesn't interest me as much as it should...hmm...yes it's an ok song...but not the best choice for GH3 either...I would hae used plug in baby...

...so all in all...yes I don't like this album...I don't like the way they sound slightly like Rush (PLEASE PLEASE DON'T TELL ME THEY DON'T I ONLY SAID SLIGHTLY) and it's commerical...I would advise you to buy Origin of Symetry first...as that is where the spacey proggy journey starts and peaks...can you vote me down more then the UK...they voted me down 17 times...I'd like to see you try and beat the stereotype...weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Incredible Album
Muse does not disappoint with Black Holes and Revelations. From the 'Take A Bow' at the beginning, to 'Knights Of Cydonia' at the end, this is a great album. Whether, you are just discovering Muse for the first time, or you have been a long time fan, this album is sure to please anyone. I would recommend everyone should buy it right now.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - never knew they existed
tight interesting and great music, reminds me of Queen 10CC and even Deep Purple but with enough of their own style to be well worth having in any record collection

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Fantastic
The first song I heard from this album was "Map of the Problematique"; just the tone of the track was enough for me to buy the cd. I hadn't previously heard of Muse so I was a bit skeptical because of the "buy the album for one song and the rest of it is terrible", but I went ahead and purchased it anyways.

The First Track, "Take A Bow", was reminiscent of the one I had heard, but the thing that struck me the most was while it shared similarities, it's tone was completely different yet still entertaining; this was true with pretty much every other track, from "Knights Of Cydonia"(one of my favorites in Guitar Hero III as well as on real guitar) to "Invincible".

The album flows very well, has solid instrumental riffs with none of the gawdy Yngwie Malmsteen sound, and was well worth the time to give it a chance. 5/5

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A few months later, I take back my 5 star rating
As a fan of Guitar Hero III, I noticed a bonus song, Muse's Knights of Cydonia, and played it. I was expecting to just pass time, but I was stunned, ABSOLUTELY STUNNED. I immediately bought this album, played it, and was stunned again with Take a Bow, the very first track. After hearing the last song, which is Knights of Cydonia, again, I was speechless, as I came to the realization that this album is CURRENT and also VERY GOOD.

That was several months ago. Coming back, I'm embarrased to have written that. Muse is HORRIBLE. I wish you could change the rating and not just your review.
