Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Hmm..... are they tired or something?
Okay.. I wish I could give them 3 and half stars but I can't. I have all of their released works. I regard the Muse as one of the most original, creative, talented, inspiring bands of my life-time. Their scope and versatility are amazing. I have to say that Black Holes and Revelations is not as good as any of their previous works. Having said that, it is still good, and there are still some great tracks on it. I know that they have always had the odd cover track on their albums, but it is a little worrying that the number seems to be increasing. Whilst their songs that they choose to cover are always superbly done, I feel a bit uncomfortable when the CD does not make clear what is a cover song, and what is original. I think that the boys need to take a break, and re-charge their batteries. Maybe have a few kids, give them a different angle on life. I believe that they are going through a transitional period. I will still buy every future album that they release...

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - A bombastic-funktastik-arena shaker-headbanger-rock&roll extravaganza
Less is more? Uh? Who said that????

Enter Muse, the biggest small band to come this way of Mars since..... well, maybe since the Pumpkins disbanded.....

If you are not familiar with the band's previous offerings, you may well be dazzled by the sheer display of arpegios, crescendos, falsettos, and operistic melodrama....
Muse consists of a trio, it's true, but the musicians stretch themselves as far as it is possible to create a very, very BIG sound.

The result is very pretentious, but delivers most of the time.

In this record, they are not ashamed of wearing their inlfuences.... And they resemble a lot to Queen, Rush, Depeche Mode, Prince?, and even Ennio Morricone....
This album was made having a rock stadium in mind, and each song works better live than on the record (I know cause I've seen them play, and boy oh boy), but there are many good songs here anyway (though maybe not as good as in their previous two recordings).

Anyway, give this album a chance.... And if you don't end up shaking your hair to the twisted solo of the last song, then check out Origin of Symmetry, or Absolution, which are, for me, five star records.

Oh, some songs i'd recommend: all of them!, save maybe Exo Politics and Assasin (they've already made this song but a lot better with Stockholm Syndrome).

Oh, and don't forget to check them live. They were really made for it!!!

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - ...
I have been a Muse fan for a long time. I was totally into their first record. I saw them play in New York City in 1998. It was a very small show. They seemed to be in the UK magazines that year for a while. With their second album, I forgot about them. It was never released in America. It was a flop. I never heard it really. Their third album was a massive international success. I saw them play a few more times at bigger venues. They were at the main stage at Coachella. After a while this little band I discovered in 1998, was like the biggest UK band of all time. This band that seemed like an alternative to Radiohead was coming into its own. "Take A Bow" and "Starlight" seem like great songs, and a continuation where Absolution left off. "Supermassive Black Hole" is more like a heavy metal version of Curtis Mayfield. "Map Of The Problematique" has shades of The Cure. "Assassin" is some heavy stuff that has been more appreciated in the past. Muse brings everything to the record. They are a talented bunch. This album is probably a treat to the hardcore fans. But it is not much new. If their last album was their OK Computer, I am not sure this is their Kid A. It's just another refined version of their previous album. I am getting tired of the lame references to science fiction.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - step up from absolution
i love this cd, my favorite song is city of delusion but all of them are great, if you like this get absolution or showbiz, both of which are excellant, other greats include starlight, invincible and the epic knights of cydonia

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Chilling, beautiful!
I'm always wary when a band I like releases a new album, since I've been let down more than a few times in the past. I was pleasantly surprised when I heard it for the first time, though with a band like Muse I know I shouldn't be. Some of the songs positively sent chills down my back. Muse can mix energy, passion, and beauty like none other.
