- The Dixie Chicks Finally Find a Musical Home
This is one of my favorite albums of all time, and I love it even more after watching the Chicks' new DVD "Shut Up and Sing." I think Taking the Long Way has finally landed the Chicks in the music category where they belong - with Sarah McLachlan, Sheryl Crow, Shawn Colvin, Patty Griffin, the Indigo Girls - the whole Lilith Fair crew. I'm not sure that there's a good name for that genre yet (folk just doesn't seem to cover it) but it's surely not country. They never seemed like country artists to me (too smart for one thing) and this album feels as though they've quit trying to wear that too-tight shoe and decided to go barefoot. Rock on, Dixie Chicks! (Lilith on?)
Rating: - Brilliant! One of the best CD's I have ever heard.
Since 1991 I have only heard a handful of cd's that are truly inspired.
The original Johnny Cash's "American Recordings", Pearl Jam's "Ten"
and this CD. This is a near perfect CD and I would never have guessed that I would say that about the Dixie Chicks. That shows how dumb my prejudices are. Don't listen to all the goobs who rejected this significant album because of right-wing political bias. If you are a fan of popular music and you have not heard this cd, do yourself a favor and buy it today.

Not a big country fan, but you have to admire GUTS. The album is really good.
Rating: - Good CD But Album or the Year?
I have always like the Dixie Chicks and their political statements didn't change anything for me. When this CD got Album of the Year I decided I had to have it. Don't get me wrong, its GOOD...several tracts are even GREAT...but there is also some stuff I would consider "filler". To me, this album should have never beat James Blunt's Back to Bedlam which is GREAT from the first song to the last.
But, if you like the Dixie Chicks (and I really do), you should definitely get this CD. It does include some of their best work and you will have real insight into how they felt after Natalie's statements about President Bush.

I USUALLY DO NOT LIKE THE DIXIE CHICKS BUT THIS CD HAS CHANGED MY MIND ABOUT THEM. I WILL MOST LIKEL BUY MORE OF THERE MUSIC BASED ON THIS ONE.
