Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Stankonia by Outkast
I don't know what to think about Outkast, truthfully. I like what they do overall, but sometimes it's not so good. They're cool guys, but I don't know if I'm buying in yet. Whatever, let's get on with the review.

There are good songs on here. There are more than 2 good songs on here. The album has a good amount of nice songs. You can probably listen to it all the way through it you can stand the lame skits. It has a cool southern feel (although not as heavily as Aquemini). There are very few songs that stink up the place.

The beats are cool, too. They experiment with a lot of different songs and the beats are not boring and devoid of interesting patterns. (like say, Wu-Tang) they experiment here, and I have to give them their due for it.

Lyrically the Stankonia holds its own. From the play on funky and stinky of the title to So Fresh So Clean they experiment well with lyrics. Every now and again they get somewhat political. In "Gasoline Dreams" they denounce the American Dream in fairly effective fashion. They also are on point in "Ms. Jackson". While it's not political it's not lyrically dead as some efforts on here are. They seem to be unsure of where to go. On one song they say something, then for three songs they just kind of ramble. Stankonia lacks focus, lyrically. I like what they do when they work on lyrical significance; they should do more with it. It's like they're afraid that if they get too far away from 'jumpin' like kangaroos' nobody will dig it.

The downside to Stankonia is that it is ordinary. There are good songs, but no great ones. It suffers from Tony Gwynn syndrome: too many hits, not enough homeruns. It's an enjoyable effort, but there's not much on here that blows my mind. This is where the quandry of Outkast comes in. While I love Stankonia, I can't see giving it any higher than a 6. It's good, not great - sorry guys.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - 3 or 4 stars? i don't know so i gave it 4
I can't get my head around whether this is a great album, or if it is just pretty good. In the end it is better than most in its genre so i'm gonna say it's great. For a rap album is actually creative, and not monotonous. In the beginning of the album alot of songs i found to be skip-worthy. As it played on i wondered if it was going to turn out to be another awful rap album. But once "Call before I Come" started playing the album really took off. They started taking chances, which resulted in awesome songs like "?" and "Toilet Tisha," and also made some songs which were really weird, but I'm not complaining they were unique. I truly appreciate the creativity, and the willingness to not follow the norm. Rap like this you'll never hear about on the radio, and that's a shame. Oh yeah, and don't forget about the interludes. Every rap album's got them, but these(at least a few) are pretty funny, and a great inbetween thing. The main songs i found to be garbage were pretty much all of the songs with guests on them, except for the track with Erykah Badu, which is one of my 3 favorite songs on the album. Good stuff, even if you don't like rap.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Cementing their standing as hip hop megastar icons
OutKast had been out for a minute but this album made me become a true fan and recognize their creativity.

This album is crunk, it's exciting, it's brilliantly put together and a fine example of hip hop at its best.

OutKast is pioneering and yet so fantastic they're almost mainstream now -- but in a good way (OutKast is the anti-Black Eyed Peas, LOL).

Stankonia just continues OutKast's everchanging shape that keeps taking hip hop to higher levels.

If you've listened to Southernplayalisticadilacmuzik, ATLiens and Aquemini, you probably know to expect the unexpected on this album.

Stankonia is one of the hip hop albums I always throw up in debates as proof that good hip hop can still simultaneously make you dance/groove and think at the same time.

That Andre 3000 is deceptively very, very political, but you gotta pay attention or you'll miss his messages.

Highly recommended LP. Fun and crunk with hidden social/political commentary. One of my all-time favorite albums.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Another very creative and interesting album by OutKast - you'll love this one too!
"Stankonia" is another great album by OutKast, and although it follows relatively the same style as "Aquemini", it's still just a great great album. Once again OutKast returns with his recognizable and amazing vocal style along with deep and catchy lyrics. He spits incredibly fast, fluently and clearly - I have no idea how he does it (especially with some of the more complex words). The production is, once again, fantastic, and this time around two hits are found on here ("Ms. Jackson" and "So Fresh, So Clean"). The lyrics, as always, are incredibly funny and catchy, though not necessarily deep all the time. You'll definitely have fun listening to them carefully, though. This, along with "Aquemini", is one of the more original and creative rap albums to come along in recent years. Rap fans will love this, though I'm not sure whether non-genre fans will. All things aside, this is highly recommended!

Highlights include:
the entire album!

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - They got rich and quit trying
This can't be Outkast. It just can't be. Thats what I kept tellin myself as I skipped thru the album. I was a HUGE fan of their first 3 albums. But there was NO way for me to know that this one would be wack. They were wrong. Releasing {So fresh so clean} & {Miss Jackson} as singles. That was misleading in everyway. Those singles were OK to me when I heard em on the radio. But compared to the other tracks on the album those 2 might as well be gold. ...
Beware, this album is Str8,100% pure, concentrated GARBAGE. It almost hurts to say that bout em. But when I remember how they hurt me {and many others} with this trash I ....
They were HUGE around the time this album was made. It shows. They just went into the studio and said things into the mic. They musta made those WACK beats themselves {while high} SURELY they didn't pay someone to do that.
