Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Not Their Best - But Unmistakably MUSE
'Showbiz' is an archetypical Muse album. Songs like 'Muscle Museum', 'Hate This & I'll Love You', and most of all 'Escape' are symbolic for Muse's trademark: artistically prepared songs in which the chorus explodes in near-hard rock.

Though the album contains great songs - like the opener 'Sunburn' with its pearling piano and energetic chorus, the catchy 'Cave' which you will have a hard time NOT to be carried away by, and especially the simple yet nicely roaring 'Uno' with the distorted chorus and the flickering guitar - 'Showbiz' lacks REALLY great songs. And thus it does not come up to the level we are used to from this one of the truly greatest contemporary rock bands.

The Muse sound though, is intact. Enjoy the exploding 'Fillip', the mysterious title song, as well as 'Sober'. The latter is noisy, refreshlingly rocking, yet not that promising in the beginning... but with a certain charm which increases. And increases.

So, yes, it IS a worthwhile rock album. Slightly below Muse standard. But way above most contemporary rock band's standard...

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Quite lovely...
A classmate of mine introduced me to Muse. At first, I was in love. This CD starts out so beautifully. The whole CD is enjoyable, I have no real complaints. The lead singer's voice is slightly reminiscent of Jeff Buckley in his high-pitched moments. This CD has a lot of potential, particularly starting off the way it does, from gentle piano and singing to crashing, burning emotion. It hooks you right away...however, something seemed to be missing from this album. I don't know that I could define it...it seemed a bit empty underneath it all, lacking some ultimate feel or meaning. But it's worth listening to... Definitely an enjoyable CD.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Anyone for Angst?
Probably the best, most personally important album I've ever bought; (forgive me for my angsty yet enthusiastic inner 14 year old but I still think of those formative years fondly. I may be alone in this). Matthew Bellamy (singer, songwriter, lead guitarist) with his over developed mind and abnormally long fingers hatched himself an album that was at times raw and brooding, above all clever and defiant. Showbiz showcases perfectly a young band in prototype, who have since embarked on a long and creatively ambitious career. When this music hits home you'll never throw it away. A highly acclaimed first album by them, laying all foundations, and covering all bases in a radiohead-dominated era. A must for all Muse Fans.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Buy the CD Now
Very Simple. Muse are Great. I have seen them live. I love all the songs on both CD's. Buy the god damn CD people...please...for your own good. Give in to your wanton capitalist nature, live life in the fast lane for a change, don't be so tight. Buy, Buy, Buy.
