Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Capitol's stars twinkle and shine !!!
Hello, Young Lovers: Capitol Sings Rodgers And Hammerstein has some of Capitol Records' greatest recording artists ever singing their hearts out on these wonderful songs written by Rodgers and Hammerstein. The sound quality is perfect; and I like the artwork as well.

The CD starts with Bobby Darin singing "Hello, Young Lovers" from The King And I; Bobby gives this a jazzy, peppy rendition that works very well to showcase just how exciting new love can be--excellent! Bobby never misses a note, either. "Some Enchanted Evening" gets a stunning treatment from Jo Stafford; she sings this South Pacific tune with all her hart and soul; and her excellent diction bolsters her performance. There's also Peggy Lee performing "Something Wonderful" from The King And I; Peggy delivers this with great sensitivity and I really like "Something Wonderful."

Nancy Wilson performs "People Will Say We're In Love" with all her might; and the jazzy interpretation enhances the natural beauty of this ballad. Nancy Wilson never sounded better; and I think you'll like Nancy singing "People Will Say We're In Love" if you haven't heard this tune before. Listen also for The Andrews Sisters to perform a great interpretation of "Younger Than Springtime" from South Pacific. The Andrews Sisters were able to harmonize so sweetly; they are one of my very favorite sister acts ever.

The Starlighters do a smash-up job on "I Whistle A Happy Tune" again from The King And I; The Starlighters do a fantastic job on this number and they make it just as upbeat as it could ever be! Peggy Lee also does well on "I Enjoy Being A Girl." "I Enjoy Being A Girl" has a faster, Latin style tempo that I never heard before but it holds its own very well. Great!

Tennessee Ernie Ford also does well on "My Favorite Things" from The Sound Of Music; his voice is wonderful and it's rare that you get to hear a bass singer perform so flawlessly. I love it! Nancy Wilson returns to sing a rousing rendition of "Getting To Know You" which also comes from The King And I; "Getting To Know You" puts Nancy squarely front and center--and that's OK with me! Judy Garland also does a wonderful interpretation of "You'll Never Walk Alone."

Overall, this is an especially strong CD for lovers of show tunes and classic pop vocals. These tunes were recorded when these artists were truly in their prime; and you're bound to enjoy this CD for years to come.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - For R&H Fans
If you're a fan of R&H, then you'll enjoy this CD full of classical music with classical voices. Artists such as Gordon MacRae, Peggy Lee, Judy Garland, Dick Haymes, Jo Stafford, Bobby Darin, and Nancy Wilson. Be aware: this CD does not contain recordings from the original cast releases, rather it provides new and jazzy versions by popular artists of R&H's era. I bought this CD because of the cover art (I'm into graphic design as well as everything else in the world of the arts) and because I'm a fan of R&H...what a treat. This is for those R&H fans who can appreciate all interpretations of their work. :)

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Garland, Stafford, Lee and more sing Broadway classics
"Hello Young Lovers" is probably the best of the Capitol Sings series, not only because the hits of Rogers & Hammerstein remain popular but also because this album has some great covers taken from the label's inventory from 1949 to 1965. One of the hallmarks of the series is that you get Broadway standards done in different musical styles such as Bobby Darin's peppy title track, Nancy Wilson jazzy version of "People Will Say We're in Love" and Jo Stafford's sultry and mellow "Some Enchanted Evening." There are group harmonies from the Andrews Sisters, the Starlighters and the Jeff Alexander Singers. There are also some songs you have probably never heard, such as Helen O'Connell doing "No Other Love" from "Me and Juliet." For those of you who are very open minded, there are gender switches, with Tennessee Ernie Ford singing "My Favorite Things," Vic Damone doing "The Sound of Music," and the aforementioned Stafford cover of "Some Enchanted Evening." The album saves the best for last, with Judy Garland's "You'll Never Walk Alone" and the Sinfonia of London playing "The Carousel Waltz." Even if you never were around to catch the originals, if you are fans of Rodgers & Hammerstein you will enjoy listening to Peggy Lee, Al Martino and the rest doing their unique interpretations of some of your favorite songs.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Very good and highly original interpretations
One of the best of the series! Far better than for example the Cole Porter and also better than the Gershwin CD in my opinion. (The compilations by Brad Benedict, who compiled the greatest part of the series except i.e. the ones mentioned above generally prove a sense of humor). Sound quality (remastered):*****

Also highly recommendable: The Irvin Berlin collection (listen for example to the ecstatic interpretation of "Blue Skies").
