- DAVE WAS NEVER POLITICALLY CORRECT !
Tip of the day. Don't bother to buy the CD entitled, "The Very Best Of Brother Dave," because this is as good as it gets. These two were Dave's first albums, originally released in 1959 and 1960. I first heard them in the mid 1960s and still laughed as hard as the first time hearing after Amazon shipped them to me.
Unless you are a ACLU lawyer, you'll find these two CDs hilarious! I opened the box and put in the first CD. As it was just starting, I thought, uh oh, I had a very good black friend who happened to be with me when I opened the cases and began playing the disc. I pushed the pause button and warned him and he said, "let's hear it!" OKAY. Like me, he laughed loud and hard. He asked why I had been apprehensive? He compared Dave to Richard Pryor doing his "white boy" routine, except Dave never swore.

Was glad to find an CD version of a Lp I had many years ago.

I had never heard of Brother Dave until I bought a car that came with a satellite radio. I was drawn to his humor because he reminded me of several coaches and teachers I had in high school. I had several teachers who played with the language, using southern euphemisms. I think they used them to ensure we were paying attention. I think this is what Brother Dave is doing also. He takes you down a path and spins you into several different directions. Very smart humor from a southern hipster.

I haven't heard Brother Dave in years but have thought of his comedy routines many times and laughed to myself over "The Motorcycle Story" or "The Haunted House". I told them to my friends and now I can play them for them and share the laughter. Thank you for bringing back such good memories. Brother Dave was one of the great southern comedians who has been over looked over the years and it's good to have this CD to share that with others who have never heard of him.
"Here Julius hold this. Et tu Brutay? No man, I ain't et nothing"....

This CD is a great reproduction of exactly the same albums my parents listened to in the 1950's. It brought back all the "weird" sayings we got from Dave Gardner, who was ahead of his time.
