Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Smooth but not love Mushy
This CD is GREAT...a guy can listen to it to relax or listen to the cd as a couple....I think every couple should have this cd...it's full of smooth love dance songs but not mushy songs like Chicago. I just don't understand how a guy who made such great love songs could have had women problems.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - An unplanned and wonderful trip down memory lane!
I purchased this CD after hearing "I'm So Tired of Being Alone" in the movie The Family Stone. Hearing that song again evoked so many deep memories from my past that I had to have the piece in my collection.

Well, the rest of the CD was just as good! Not one bad song! Al Green pours his heart and soul into his songs and brought back even more wonderful memories than I even remembered I had.

This CD is completely uplifting and rockin'!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The Greening Of America
Every time a truly beastly winter storm traps the population indoors for days or a power outage shuts down a city, sociologists observe a spike in the birth rate nine months later. These are isolated events. The music of Al Green, however, has enjoyed sustained popularity since its emergence in the `70s, and one can barely imagine the population boom that can be traced to it. Indeed, this CD should come with an advisory label saying something to the effect, "Unless You Are Determined To Become Pregnant As Soon As Possible Or Are Currently Using Bullet-Proof Birth Control, Do Not Listen To This Music." There's a very potent mix at work here, it has to do with the combination of Al Green's absolutely exquisite voice and the deceptively smooth funk of the players behind him. This is not music you listen to; it's music you feel. Green talks, whispers, moans, squeals, it's just too intoxicating - and the rhythm sneaks inside you like a camel sneaks into a tent, a little bit at a time, until there's no part of you left that isn't vibrating on Al's frequency.

While the absolute requisites are all here, some omissions are surprising. Notably absent are Take Me To The River, I Try To Tell Myself, and How Can You Mend A Broken Heart? Green himself is quite an interesting figure, he falls in and out of the ministry with regularity, bouncing from the sacred to the secular, more likely finding the sacred in the secular. Often considered a high priest of romance, he himself has been unlucky in love. After a spurned lover became jealous and poured a pan of boiling-hot grits on him while he sat relaxing in the bathtub, Green earned the nickname "Al Grits." Then again, lawyers, who are experts at the law, seem to have the greatest trouble obeying it. Just because Green can make love sound irresistibly wonderful to us is no reason to believe he knows anything about it.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Al Green Really Rocks
This collection of Al Green's greatest hits is packed with rhythm and blues songs that will get you moving. Each song has its own rhythm, great lyrics and a beat that goes on and on. There's not a bad song on this collection. Al Green has a voice that has impact and causes you to sway with his music. You will not be disappointed if you like music that really rocks.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - This album is oozing with sensuality, tenderness, passion and string's of majestic hits.
Listening to these Soul classics of Al Green creates a spirit of sexual energy that scores a hit right into the center of the limbic system of your brain: takes away hostility, stress of the day, and other petty worries, and recharges your same brain circuits to fire up thoughts of love, romance, and many other wonderful happenings inappropriate to spell out in this Amazon.com review; prompting heavenly thoughts and feelings you may not have had in a very long time.

Thank GOD Al Green didn't find the aforementioned sooner, otherwise it may have been gospel that Green was remembered for as opposed to these seventies soul gems. Few soul artists come correct like this anymore - this is still a brilliant compilation in which every song carries a hook or melody so naggingly good that you wonder how it's legal. Notice how people react when you play a song as heavenly as 'You Ought To Be With Me', 'Call Me' or 'Livin For You' - they start to wonder where AL Green has been all their lives that is the seductive charm of this record.

Unfortunately 'Greatest Hits' doesn't include some of his more subtle, affecting work like 'How Can You Mend A Broken Heart' or 'I Didn't Know', but the Rev. Al Green can still send a rapturous chill up your spine and make your world that much more joyful by owning this record.
