- Timeless!!............
If you grew up listening to Al Green's R&B like I did and do NOT own this disc, there can be only one good reason why: You already own all of Al's releases from 1971 through 1976! If not, you're doing yourself a disservice by not having "Greatest Hits" remastered. Buy it now!! This collection of Al's soothing soul will be in your CD changer over & over. Even if you DO own "Gets Next To You", "Let's Stay Together", "Call Me", "Explores Your Mind", "Is Love", "Livin' For You" & "Full Of Fire" like I do, you should have this timeless sampler for occasions when you don't have four of five hours to listen to music (which is probably most of the time). A MUST-HAVE compilation for your R&B library!!

Al Green is an amazing singer that went through life the hard way. Having his girlfriend brun him and then commit suicide in front of him you would think he couldn't bounce back from that but Belle was the album he made after that incident (or so I heard). Al Green's new cd's don't have the soul he had in his old ones, he doesn't sing like he use to, so if his new cd's soured your experience I suggest you change your mind and get this amazing cd. There is so much soul and emotion put into this album, there isn't a song here I don't like, literally, they all sound good! Many say when he made the album Belle he really lost it but it's not true. Although there was a song that I thought should have been on this cd called Truth and Time, it is a great song too! If you are a begginner get this album to learn what Al Green is all about! Oh and if you didn't know Al Green is a Pastor for a church.

After songs 1-5 there is nothing else to listen too. I would not suggest buying this album but only cd write the songs you want from it.

I bought this album simply because it makes me happy. The music is great and it inspires great memories within me. We danced to this album on Holidays. I love Al Green's passion, and mood making. His voice is so awesome. This is truly wonderful ear and soul candy. It's hard to find a good love song now that doesn't break out into a rap song, so I tend to stay with the older soul and R&B music.
One really can't listen to any of the songs and not feel moved in some way. My favorite song on this collection is 'Tired of Being Alone'. It is a good example of his voice, and the range. Other awesome songs are "Love and Happiness", "Here I am", and the wonderful love ballad "Let's Get Married". There are so many other songs on here though that showcase his talent all the more. Describing each song would have me here until the next millennium!
Whether he is pelting out a gospel tune or a soul one, it's a hit with me. His voice is like no other and it's pure joy, pain, and laughter all bunched into one. If it's good you feel it. And you will feel it.
One song I strongly suggest checking out that isn't on this album is :

Either way you go, you can't go wrong. Al Green is timeless and wonderful!

- Excellent sound quality except "Let's Stay Together"
The reason to get the gold cd is for Steve Hoffman's remastering. As usual, he does a very good job here, but with one exception: The master tape used for "Let's Stay Together" is terribly worn, causing the sound to drop in and out throughout most of the song. (And it is the long version that is included on this disc, so it is particularly sad that it sounds this bad.) Otherwise the warmth of the original recordings shines through, probably due to the use of tubes for mastering for this cd release.
The music is, of course, excellent. In less than a decade's time, Al Green left quite a legacy of soul classics.
