- How smooth can you get?
These songs are always smooth and sexy but never degenerate into being outright raunchy. Al Green's vocals are amazing. He can make you high with his barely restrained voice and put you over the top with his incredible visceral screams. His vocal stylings are entirely appropriate for the gospel music he sings now, but we should all be glad that he chose different subject matter to sing about during his 70's peak. All the songs on this compilation are great, obviously, but the standout track in my opinion has got to be "I Can't Get Next to You." The beat is slow and hard, and Al is both singing and talking the lyrics. This song never fails to be repeated on my CD player.
I like Marvin Gaye, but I go with Al Green if I want to hear something more raw. Don't pass up a chance to hear or get this CD. It'll probably help you to "get in the mood" if nothing else.

There has been no other male vocalist quite like Al Green. No doubt has all R&B bedroom balladeers of today like Keith Sweat, Joe, and Avant taken a page from his book. Al Green revolutionized soul music with his smokey croon. The 70's was a great period for music, but Al Green was the one singer that is most special to me. I didn't grow up in the 70's but I definately know about it now and I'm so glad I took a look at all the greatness.
I got a lot of favorites. The first Al Green song I experieced was "Let's Stay Together". Big trumpets, big voice, big sound. An absolute classic. The simple yet sophisicated "L-O-V-E (Love)" is another one of my favorites. I know every word now. And "I'm Still In Love With You" is gorgeous. I can't say what my favorite track is because I really do love them all.
This album is a MUST. HAVE. Without a doubt. I don't care what type of music you are into most, but there is always a special occasion where a little Al Green can go a long way...

I've always loved Al Green, and if you're a fan like me, this is the CD to have. All of his classic hits are here. This is feel-good music, to enjoy whether you are alone or with someone. No one can belt out a love song with such passion and soul as Mr. Green. Each song on this great CD reminds us of that. No music collection is complete without it. Add it today!

This album has found it's way into my regular rotation despite the fact that I'm not a particularly big fan of Soul or R&B. The music on this album is universal - and it's appeal is undeniable no matter what your musical preference may be.
Green is the best singer I've ever heard, and I don't mean he has the best voice - he doesn't. Green's appeal relies in his feel for the music and his subtlety. He rarely screams or bellows - so when he does you know it must be important. Rather than singing loudly or busily, Green's pleasantly wavering voice employs a series of quiet falsetto whispers and guttural moans and groans to convey the meanings of the songs.
My personal favorite, other than the obviously wonderful "Let's Stay Together" is his cover of "I Can't Get Next to You", complete with an acid-rock guitar solo.
If you don't own this, you're missing something big.

FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT DON'T HAVE ANY AL GREEN MUSIC THIS IS THE CD TO START WITH. IT HAS ALL HIS BIGGEST HITS. I HAVE THE ORIGINAL RECORD AND THEY ADDED FIVE MORE HITS PLUS THEY CHANGED TRACK #5 TO "LOVE AND HAPPINESS" FROM HIS VERSION OF THE BEE-GEES "HOW CAN YOU MEND A BROKEN HEART." YOU CAN'T HAVE AN AL GREEN COLLECTION WITHOUT "LOVE AND HAPPINESS."
