Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - A VERY guilty pleasure
This CD is the aural equivalent of eating a tube of chocolate chip cookie dough. You enjoy doing it, and you're ashamed of yourself for doing it at the exact same time.

The sound of the album is very inconsistent: it's got a couple of Meatloaf-esque "Rock Opera" pieces (Tonight Is What It Means To Be Young, Nowhere Fast) Stevie Nix-esque pieces (sorcerer, Never Be You), Rockabilly-esque (Hold That Snake, One Bad Stud, Blue Shadow), 80's pop (Deeper and Deeper), and R & B Lite (I Can Dream About You, Countdown To Love.) So when I'm in the mood for one or two of the genres on here, I'm by default not in the mood for the others.

Nowhere Fast is probably the worst offender of the guilty pleasure part. The lyrics are SO bad (Google them, if you like) that you feel dumb for singing along while you're singing along. Tonight Is What It Means To Be Young is a VERY close second: you listen to the words and think to yourself, "Yeah, that's right! Oh, wait. Nope, that's not it at all." If you are looking for more music because you've worn out your Bat Out Of Hell 8-Track, these two songs will be a blessing from Rock Heaven for you.

The rest of them are serviceable, with one outstanding exception: I Can Dream About You is a good song that made it to hit status way back in the dark ages of the mid-80s. I got to see the movie and buy the album the first time when I was 15, and the whole movie and CD experience appeals to the 15 year old part of everyone I know who likes it.

The songs work a lot better in the context of the movie than they do separated from it. Usually, after I've seen a movie I can appreciate the soundtrack on its own better. Not so here: the songs work a LOT better with the visuals than by themselves. Get the DVD and watch the songs instead.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - 80's Rock and Roll Lives!
If you like the hard-driving, melodic rock and roll ballads from the like of Meatloaf, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, and Bonnie Tyler, the "Streets of Fire" soundtrack is a winner.

I bought this CD because I caught the video from "Tonight is What it Means to Be Young," a few months back and realized that I'd like Streets of Fire and the accompanying music.

Some mediocre songs appear on the CD, but overall it evokes a time and place in the early 80's, which is a fun place to visit now ana again thanks to CD's like this one.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Streets Of Fire a great cd and movie
I love the sound track to Streets Of Fire. It has wonderful hillbilly rock styles along with very moody slow songs. I really enjoy the sounds of the Blasters.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - I've never ran so fast...
This is a true jewel in our family of runners and I would like to thank our oldest brother Tom for the introduction to what quickly became known as "the mother of all running tapes." I cannot possibly tell you how many times I have heard the phrase "who has my Streets of Fire tape" growing up in our house. This tape is full of inspiration as well as nostalgia. When your on your last mile of your run, and track number 6 kicks on(Tonight is What it Means to be Young) you know you can make it home, and you can make it home fast.
Thank you Streets of Fire, All 7 of us love you!!!!!!!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - One the most underrated albums ever...
There is not a bad song on here and the variety makes this a winner. It's just got a rock 'n roll feel to it, the kind of electricity that rock 'n roll has when you first discover it as a youth. It is alive, adrenaline pumping and fills you with possibility.

'I Can Dream About You' became a huge hit and The Fixx was a relative phenomenon in the 80s. But the best of this soundtrack can only be found by digging in. 'One Bad Stud' and 'Hold That Snake' have a swing to them that you can't help but be smitten by and 'Sorcerer' and 'Never Be You' are so filled with that angst of youth it just oozes through the speakers. The other songs are also good.

But the two songs that stand out are 'Nowhere Fast' and 'Tonight Is What It Means to Be Young' by Fire, Inc. The latter has to be one of the best songs ever to pump into your brain all the power and potency of youth, to take you right back to the time when you felt invincible and life was filled with a sense of urgency you almost couldn't contain. It's a seven minute opus to those feelings.
