Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Still the classic it started out as!
What can I say? This is the pinnacle of the Fleetwood Mac years. At the time of its release this album spent more time at number 1 than any other album had since Elvis or White Christmas. And today? It's still as fresh as ever!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The Dark Side Of Mac
Coming after their successful 1975 eponymous album,Fleetwood Mac drops a bomb on the music world, and its title is Rumours. The album is more tighter, the songwriting top notched, but the overall atmosphere is dense and filled with tension.Contributing to this factor are various romantic breakups in the group as well as substance excess. The result is a polished piece of great pop music, shaded with dark undertones.Besides the classic hits(Go Your Own Way,Dreams,Don't Stop,You Make Loving Fun),we also get the masterfully played Lindsey Buckingham track Never Going Back Again,as well as Stevie Nicks rocking Gold Dust Woman. The albums centerpiece The Chain sums up the state of the group, especially when they sacrifice their personal feeling to keep the group together.Fortunately, the classic line-up did keep it going for another ten years before Buckingham quit, only to reunite for President Clinton's inaugurational ball(as well as 1997's The Dance, and 2003's Say You Will.In all Rumours is the classic lineup's masterwork which has yet to be matched.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Amazing
A classic. One of the best albums ever. Nothing more to say. Perfection.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - What is left to say about this record?
...I hated this album when it came out because-- well, just because. Same reason I hated Boston and Fly Like an Eagle. It was too popular, too opulent, too oft played on the radio. I didn't give it a fair shake until around 1983, after being momentarily intrigued by Tusk (a masterpiece too), Mirage, and the single of summer '81 that was Lindsey's solo piece of cotton candy for the ear, "Trouble."

So how does it sound 25 years on? It sounds great, it counds classic. It sounds like the very best of the Beach Boys, the Mamas and the Papas, and everything good (that's right, good) about the 70s. It shimmers, it boils, it seethes. Itr sticks in your teeth. I won't even go into the human drama that provided the context and undercurrent-- you have cable, you've seen the Behind the Music. Instead, listen to the way that Lindsey's subtle production touches make Stevie's (often innocuouos) songs sound so good. Listen, for example, to his pained wail in the background at the end of "Gold Dust Woman"-- it totally makes the song. Listen to the simplicity and melodicism of "Never Going Back Again." Listen to the way his harmony vocals wrap around Christine McVie's voice to push "Don't Stop" over the top.

This is a timeless and brilliant album that sounds better than you remember. Buy it, wait for a sunny breezy day, pop it into the car stereo, roll down the windows, and step into pop heaven.

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention too that the band features the only rhythm section in the world that can do justice to Lindsey's magic.

Also recommended: the new Say You Will; Tusk; Tango In the Night (Lindsey does some of those songs all by himself), and his solo work, especially the last two of the three.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Amazing
Well, I don't know If I can do this justice in a review. Excellent sound quality, especially caonsidering the time of production, and some just d**N great songs. The best tracks on this: "Go your own way"nd "Gold dust woman". The worst? "Oh daddy". As is typicall with Lindsey Buckingham, the guitar is strong and has a way of getting stuck in your head (In a good way). Stevie's lyrics are mysterious and beutiful, and the music that accompanies them dosn't dissapoint. Christine's songs are good, but I really think that she sonds her best when live. Recording equipment dosn't seem to capture her voice accuratly. Overall, excellent album, my personal favorite, from a time when "good music" wasn't an oxymoron.
