It is nowadays rare and joyfull to listen to such remarkable, sensuous voice. Peyroux talent is excepional, it fills the gap between pretending noise and real art of singing. My dream is, she should edit another CD, in her Dremland.

At first listen I thought she was just ripping off Billie, but she is still very fun to listen to on this CD. Her varying styles keep it interesting. I just got back from Paris and saw Madeleine singing on the sidewalk for change! She fronts a great little 3-piece jazz band called The Lost Wandering Blues Jazz Band from New York. She is introduced by the band every few numbers as the woman who sang the Jaguar commercial, and they plug this CD, while she passes the hat. They said that she is on a new label now and working on a new CD. She sounds great and draws a big crowd of Parisiennes and tourists in front of the chapel St. Germain de Pres.

Crucial essential and Southern-tinged; soulful jazzy dreamy -- languid and bittersweet, sexy smart and sensitive all at once. This Sony 20-bit HDCD recording is as pristine as the instrumentation is sparse yet rich, almost folk-ish at times, with a real sense of wit and determination throughout. One of the most accomplished and memorable voices I've ever heard, demure and sincere with no sense of cloying pretentiousness to be found. However Billie-esque Madeliene's stylings may be, and they do harken to a bygone era, there's a definitive romantic presence of her own here that remains quite strong and intimate. Whatever has become of this remarkable lady remains a mystery, but this is one disc you must add to your collection before it slips away most undeservedly into obscurity. O Madeliene where foreart thou?!
