Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Time to get Ill...
And one of the greatest albums of all time comes from... The Beastie Boys? Yes. This album is still one of my favorites after four years, and it proves several things 1) This is one of the first mixes of rap and rock, 2) White guys from Brooklyn CAN rap, and 3) This is a great party album. It's got some of the Beastie Boys' greatest songs which can be summed in three words: Girls, beer, and partying. They rap about everything from their girlfriends (Girls, She's Crafty) to partying and mischeif (the classic Fight For Your Right and Paul Revere), to booze (Brass Monkey) to themselves (No Sleep Till Brooklyn) to their favorite fast food joints. As I'm reviewing this, I would like to point out that I'm not a hip-hop fan. The Beastie Boys are one of the few groups in this genre I really like. This has some of the greatest songs on it. Girls is one your feminist girlfriend wont like. Fight For Your Right answers one of the biggest mysteries of all time: What's that noise? Brass Monkey and Hold It Now, Hit It will probably top Louie Louie as some of the great frat songs of all time. Paul Revere is a song about what happens when the Beasties get themselves into trouble. The thing is, the Beastie Boys have put out some good stuff lately, but I think it'll be a long time before they (or anyone, even Eminem) can top this. So drink your brass monkey. Come on, you know you want to...

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Immature, but a lot of fun
"Licensed to Ill" is not high art. In fact, it sounds terrible on paper. The production combines cheesy beats with hard rock samples (really, really blatant hard rock samples). The lyrics cover topics like girls, liquor, and robbery in a very funny but very crude way. And of course, the rapping is done by three white kids with very whiny voices. It looks like absolute chaos.

Yet because the boys were brave enough to go all out on the formula, it works perfectly. In fact, when they're rapping about cab drivers recognizing their date from the back of her head over a basic rap beat and guitar stolen off Led Zeppelin's "The Ocean", all you can do is laugh along and admire the Beasties for their bravery. The end result: half of these songs are classics, the other half almost could be, and the album is the pinnacle of rock/rap combos. Buy it and enjoy.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Alot of Faults
ok this CD is mostly junk. [i think] It has many weird and unusual songs. I like about two songs on here. "Brass Monkey" and "Fight for your right to party." Thats it. All of their other songs are so.... different. My oponion on this album is "Don't buy it." I am personally saying that because I am a BIG rock fan and a big fan of some rap. [like outkast] If you're into the Beastie Boys A LOT then go and buy this album. But i'm warning you, this is definately not like their newer stuff like "hello nastie." I personally think that the anthology is A LOT better than this album. If anybody wants this album and you're a rock fan, DON'T BUY IT!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Illin' 4 ever!
This disc was brutal in '86 when it came out, and it still is 2day.

I would love 2 find this release on vinyl, cuz I already have it on CD.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Creative and Brilliant!!!
3 Jews from NYC rapping! It works very well. Cosmic bass and inventive rhymes fill this fun and whitty album. This album shows that rap is not restricted because of race. "Girls" and Fight for your Right" are a big laugh and more rock than rap. "Paul Revere" is my favorite track on this CD! The bass on Paul Revere is so wild. How do they do it? "Brass Monkey" is a blast too. They Beastie Boys are in a category all by themselves and I applaude them for their genius. Dare to explore your wild side, pick up this CD!!!
