Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Explosive
Nation of Millions, which was a great, furious album, sounds almost tame compared to Fear of A Black Planet. It gives off the impression of barely controlled chaos. I would certainly agree with a previous reader's comparison to Jimi Hendrix--"Voodoo Chile" and "Machine Gun" have much in common with "Brothers Gonna Work It Out," "Terrordome," and "Fight the Power." The comparisons to punk are also interesting, seeing as how rap has been co-opted by the marketing industry to sell just about everything (remember when an artist would have been reamed for appearing in soft drink commercial?) The anti-semitic comments on "Terrordome" and the slight anti-gay dig on "Meet the G" are unfortunate, since Chuck sends a wise message about interracial dating on "Pollywanacraka" (it can be good or bad depending upon the motives, but it's still none of your business). "Burn Hollywood Burn" is one of the fiercest songs ever recorded. All in all, not for the faint of heart.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Public Enemy are black punk rock.
It's fast, it's aggressive, it's noisy, it's political. I'd have to say that Public Enemy have more in common with early 80's hardcore bands like Black Flag than the mindless drivel put forth buy Puff Daddy, Puffy Puff, Daddy Dad, or whatever that guy's name is. Chuck and Flav are to rap what Ian Mackaye and Darby Crash, respectively, are to punk. I also hear that Chuck and Flav are both big Minor Threat fans, and have seen them wear Minor Threat t-shirts in photographs. This is probably THE record of 1990, with the runner-up being another record that Chuck's on, Sonic Youth's "Goo."

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Definitely worth 5 starsss
no matter what anyone says this deserves 5 stars.911 is a joke is Flavor Flav's best song.Ice Cube is even on here and so is Big Daddy Kane[Kane puts it down!].Fight the Power is another great songs. The song"Fear of a Black Planet" is kinda annoying though but still worth 5 stars

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Fight The Power
Fight the powere is the best song eve

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - yeah, it's good
i don't listen to any rap or hiphop, but i bought this album after watching Do the Right Thing (great movie). The album is really great. it has variety, unlike most rap today. Listen to it on headphones because of all the cool funny noises you can hear. Just a little too long, though. I usually listen to the first ten tracks as a whole, and then the last ten tracks as a whole. it works very well that way.
