The 1st time I heard the main riff to Wasted (from the VH1 Storytellers show) I thought it was one of THE coolest riffs. This album is different from later albums b/c the band hadn't found their sound yet. But that doesn't stop it from being a great album. Other songs like Rock Brigade & It Could Be You are really good too, AND there are a couple of others as well (Rock Brigade & Wasted are probably the best songs on here). The album has a great classic (and punk) rock feel to it. It actually sounds like it came from the early 80s. Joe Elliot's voice is different but it rocks just the same, and the rest of the band also kicks a**! Another reviewer commented that this album is very riff-oriented and I would have to definitely agree there. I love pretty much all of Def Lep's stuff but being a hard rock fan I would have to say that this one's definitely a favorite. I think it's a shame that the band doesn't perform any of these songs live anymore...........

- DEF LEPPARD BEGINS THEIR REIGN OF DECADENCE WITH A ROAR.
Having been a Leppard Maniac for over 10 years(go easy, I am only 18), one album is still always spun in my cd player every day. On Through The Night is that album. What makes this album so radically different is that you can almost hear a Progressive Metal leaning from the boys from Sheffield. The band that made Pop Metal a thing of beauty show no sign of that sound on this album. The masterpiece song is one called "Overture". It begins slowly(with some great Hi-Hat rolls from Rick Allen) and then becomes heavier only to go into a laid back funk guitar rhythm into the slow beginning one more time. Other songs like "Answer to the Master"(featuring a drum solo that makes you wonder how Rick Allen would sound today with 2 arms) and "Wasted" rock out heavy and stand the test of time. Other songs like "When the Walls Came Tumbling Down" and "Sorrow Is A Woman" show a side of Leppard few have seen. They play out heavy while telling interesting stories. I love all Leppard but On Through The Night is a fave. Give this album a listen if you like DEF LEPPARD and ROCK AND ROLL. DO YOU WANNA GET ROCKED?

This is a great debut for the band. Quite different from today's standards. A bit more on the NWOBHM like Iron Maiden. Check out This Leppard Classic before they made millions

After all these years, I still listen to this cd almost every day. It has staying power, in my opinion. When I listen to it, it blows me away how young these guys were and how far they had come, really on their own. There is some incredibly good stuff in here. Joe's voice is so sweet and young-sounding, but some of what he does with it is spine-tingling. It's very heavy on the rock, VERY light on the pop. I think this cd is an important piece of their history. And it really really rocks. So, please get it and give it a listen. Just don't expect "Hysteria: The Early Recordings".

We must all start at the bottom. This phrase holds true for this debut album from Def Leppard. Though there are a few hard rockin' tracks, altogether the album's sound and make are totally...not too good. But if you're a true fan, you better have this one.
