Daydream Nationby: Sonic Youth Release Date October 17, 1990 `Experimental rock' and `noise rock' are such loose, intangible terms that I become troubled by seeing them branded on an album. They're umbrella terms that swoop over any music that is vaguely `out there', pushing some kind of ideal of what we deem traditional. Yet they hold a complete disregard for the actual genre and aesthetic of the music. Sonic Youth's breed of post-punk is regarded and pigeonholed as `experimental' or `noise', yet so is Frank Zappa and Tom Waits, and they share no musical style connection other being...well, original.
