Bareby: Annie Lennox Release Date June 10, 2003 I've been listening to Bare for a fair part of this Labor Day weekend and it's time to file it away because it slips a bit more each time I play it. This is another in pop and rock's great tradition of picking over the fossilized ashes of a dead relationship. As if we didn't know that from the music, Ms. Lennox spells it out for us in exquisite detail on the back of the jewel case. Note to her and a zillion others: let your artistry speak for itself. No words of explanation will give life to inert work. And, equally, words will not enhance a masterpiece. It overwhelms on its own merits. Bare is neither disaster nor masterpiece.
