Album Description: Nick Colionne combines Jazz with Rhythm, Blues and Funk. The title of guitarist/vocalist Nick Colionne's first release for KOCH Records tells the whole story. Nick's previous CDs have focused on his love of jazz, but the unmistakable presence of multiple styles of music has always been there. This time around, Nick brings it all up front. The mix of tunes on "No Limits" is a true reflection of the full artist, including more vocals, in response to the many fans who are delighted with his rich baritone voice in concert and constantly ask why he hasn't sung more on his CDs! Two of those vocals, 'Hard Line' and 'Melting Into You' are co-written with the legendary Jim Peterik, of Survivor and Ides Of March fame, who has penned the Top Ten pop classics 'Eye Of The Tiger' and 'Vehicle.' For the first time, 'No Limits' blends all the music Nick Colionne loves best. You're as likely to hear this native of Chicago's West Side sing the blues as you are to hear his blazing jazz licks; and there's no mistaking the R&B/funk influence from his early years of touring with the Staples Singers. A disciple of the pop/soul/jazz immortals Wes Montgomery and George Benson, Nick has put together a collection that evokes the finest efforts of those two masters, smooth yet street-wise and always deep in the pocket.

I had the pleasure of photographing Nick at the Hartford Jazz Festival, back in June '08. I have heard his music many times before but you really have to see him to really feel his intensity. The CD is fantastic but to have the full effect, you have to see him live to get his full sound and picture. He is such a showman as well as a talented musician. My friend Jabari was touring with him, this summer, as his drummer and I had to come see Nick perform some of his new tunes. I now have a fuller appreciation for Nick's new CD after seeing him live. Do yourself a favor and see Nick Live and you will see why he has "No Limits!"

I purchased this CD after listening to the samples posted on Amazon. Although the samples were played on my fidelity lacking laptop speakers, I thought the music sounded good so I took a chance and purchased it. This turned out to be a wise purchase as all but one (1) composition sounded good to me. In fact, I would described this as a phenominal effort. Nick sounds like a combination of Wes Montgomery, George Benson and Norman Brown. The music on this effort is fairly original sounding although some may mistake him for Norman Brown. The recording quality on this CD is excellant, too. This is one of those CDs you can put in your car and play repeatedly on a five or six hour drive. Its some of the best smooth jazz I've heard in a long time. Every ... Read More:

I just really love this album. Although I am not really into contempory jazz, I really enjoy listening to this album. the tracks are soothing and...relaxing.
Nick Colionne's guitar playing has been compared to George Benson and from style and tone standpoint you can hear why.
Cuts like "No Limits", the mellow "The Big Windy Cat" and the ultra fast "Godfather J" are uptempo funky/smooth gems.
"Steppin Back" has that steppers feel, whilst "Headin Wes Before Dawn" takes a melodic route in paying homage to Wes Montgomery. There are 3 vocal cuts and whilst Nick is no Luther, his crooning style works on the laid-back "Melting Into You".
This is a fine exhibition of Smooth Jazz guitar.

Nick Colionne has outdone himself (and that's saying plenty) on NO LIMITS. This CD is as close to his live shows as you can get (minus the comedy, he's one funny cat on stage!) on a CD that you plan to play in your car or at home. Vocals are outstanding, finally he has bowed to the undoubted pressure of his fans to do more than one vocal tune per CD and these are worthy of Will Downing (competition, Will!). As always, his guitar playing is incredible, powerful, nuanced...reminds me of singing. His production skills grow sharper with every CD. As a writer he can stand with anyone out there. I highly recommend this CD. Don't even call it smooth jazz...it's so much more.
